Fine condition (see scans). In the letter, Abberly talks of the November10, 1910 powered flight at Mineola which earned him his status as one of The Early Birds of Aviation, an exclusive club if ever there was one; he talks about the use of laterally-controlled Rippenbein ailerons, and why those were unique. He also discusses his inventing activities a bit - Abberly was a prolific inventor throughout his life, with a number of patents. A scarce signature, here twice, with plenty of handwriting as well. See scans. 6" x 2 3/4", virtually fine, no flaws to call out. A nice piece of sci-fi history and American ephemera. Forrest J. Ackerman. who passed away in 2008, was and is perhaps the most legendary science fiction fan of all time - in addition to being an editor of SF anthologies, a writer of SF short stories, and a generally tireless promoter of the genre. Morris Scott Dollens (1920 - 1994) was an sci-fi artist (and, occasionally, author) who began his career illustrating genre "fanzines, then graduated to art for books & magazines in the genre. He was noted for having kept slides of virtually all his paintings, and this check to him from Ackerman - for a modest $10 in 1971 - was apparently for some of those slides. Leph
