It appears that this copy is inscribed and SIGNED by the publisher, Aristide Quillet, on the second endpaper (we are not familiar with the signature). Quarter bound with leather spine over gilt stamped lettering and blind stamped decorations on black boards. In text illustrations, 3 folding maps, and 19 full page backgrounds mouonted with copies of letters and color photographs. 413 pps. The volume is bumped on the corners, the leather spine is rubbed, toned and has splits along the front joint and crown. The interior is in very good condition with some gentle aging to the pages. Text is in French. This is an oversized volume; priority and international mailings will require additional postage.

Inscribed on the front endpaper ("To my dear friend Mrs Hobart, with abiding love"), SIGNED, and place dated ("Madison Wisconsin, 1898") by Mary Adams. Ms. Hobart (with a written inscription also on the front end paper) presented the book to the LIBRARY in 1924 which, in turn, stamped their provenance with an oval insignia, also on the front end paper. The volume is rubbed and lightly frayed at the spine ends, bumped and lightly discolored at the base of both front and rear panels; there are four areas of scuffing on the front pastedown (something removed?) and the front hinge is starting. With all this, the book is in very good condition, with bright lettering and tight binding.
