In the original paper dustjacket, slightly worn at joints. Quarto. With engraved title-page vignette and twelve other striking engravings by Barry Moser. Printed from hand-set Bembo type and Moser's original wood blocks in Gutenberg Laid Paper by Timothy Anderson, Harry Duncan, and Randolph Klauzer. A near fine copy. ThIs is a fairly early publication from Barry Moser (b. 1940), who also illustrated another poetry collection by Smyth (1944 – 2006), titled The Cardinal Sins: A Bestiary, published under Moser's Pennyroyal Press imprint in 1980.

A very good copy, clean and tight. Abercrombie (1780-1844) was a celebrated Edinburgh physician, especially noted with his work with the poor. In 1828 he became physician to the Scottish King. In 1835 he received an honorary M.D. from Oxford, and was elected Lord Rector of marischal College in Aberdeen. The present work was very popular in both the British Isles and America. It contains numerous accounts of various mental phenomena. William Osler commended the section on Dreams in the Bibliotheca Osleriana. It is not particularly highly regarded as a work of philosophy.

Idleness and Industry tells the story of Felix, a lazy and disobedient boy who falls into poverty after the death of his father and must be pulled back from the brink of suicide by his kind, hardworking, and pious friend Robert. Original printed cloth-covered boards with decorative border in blue and gilt on both boards, title on upper board, and an image of a man on lower board. . Small octavo. With 16 color-printed plates. Some rubbing to corners and a bit of toning to edges of boards. Neatly rebacked with blue cloth, endpapers replaced, and inner gutters restored. Plate facing page six is loose and laid in at original position. Still a very good, very bright and clean copy of an uncommon item. Painter and lithographer Jean Victor Adam (1801 – 1867) trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and under the direction of Charles Meynier and Jean-Baptiste Regnault. Dedication to the poet Giuseppe Bonechi (ca.1715-ca.1795), who wrote librettos, including one for Josef Myslivecek's Bellorofonte. A very good copy. Anton-Filippo Adami was a poet and miscellaneous writer. His topics ranged from agriculture to literary history and criticism. He made a well known translation of Alexander Pope's Essay on Man. The present book contains sonnets, songs, poetic letters, translations, etc. Of special note is a thirty-two page dissertation on dramatic poetry and music in the theatre.

Kearsley, 1789 First edition of a poetry collection for children that features the works of several significant female poets, including a dozen by sisters Harriet (b. 1744) and Maria Falconar (b. 1771), abolitionist and religious writer Hannah More (1745-1833), whose poem is about slavery, Ann Yearsley (1753-1806), and Elizabeth Carter (1707-1806). The present work also features poetry by Pope, Dr. Samuel Johnson, Robert Burns (an early anthologizing), Milton, Cowper, and Fitzgerald among others. Later cloth with gilt spine, new endpapers. . Octavo. With four plates, printed on a clay-finished paper, including three showing presses: the Ruthven, Philadelphia (Ramage) and Washington presses. Additional illustrations in text. Foxed throughout, as usual, bookplate of Jake Chernofsky (d. 2004), editor and publisher of the AB Bookman's Weekly. A very good copy. Though Adams borrowed heavily from Johnson and Hansard, there is new topical material in the press section, a polemic against stereotyping, and a scale of prices with tasks for typographical work.

("The original artwork consisted of line drawings and etchings. The etchings were scanned and digitally manipulated to create relief plates to render the flag textures. ") Fine. The poem is from the collection, Curses and Wishes (Louisiana State University Press, 2011), which won the 2010 Walt Whitman Award.

Contemporary calf. Gilt spine with red morocco label. . Octavo. With three engraved portraits, of the two orators and of Cicero, by M. Burg; these are included in the pagination. The Latin translation is printed at the bottom of each page. Joints, corners a bit rubbed, a little light foxing. A very good copy. This was for many years a popular edition; and was reprinted in 1715 if not oftener: but the first is the preferable edition, and is considered very correct. The explanation of the more difficult Greek words at the end, was among the principal causes of its popularity" (Dibdin I, 487).

It went through numerous editions and was expanded several times during the eighteenth century. The charming woodcut illustrations are unsigned, as is the frontispiece. This edition is recorded in one copy only, at Harvard. There is no copy in England. STC notes: "The London part of the imprint is fake, probably printed at York. Contemporary tree sheep. . Twelvemo.
