Donald, B.C.: W. Alexander, Jewller, 1890. Very Good. A circa 1890's hand-painted "Paris Green" promotional picture frame from a jewelry store operating in Donald, BC. A newspaper ad placed by Alexander's jewelry store can be found on p. 3 of the Saturday, June 23, 1894 newspaper "The Golden Era" from Golden, B.C. The front of the frame has "Compliments Of W. Alexander. Jeweller. Donald. B.C." printed in black ink using a "Fancy Style" of penmanship that was popular in the day. Frame is made from some type of early opaque plastic material, similar to celluloid film, and measures 8-1/8 inches tall x 6-3/8 inches wide to edges of decoratively trimmed borders with a spray of flowers painted in the upper right corner. Two of the four original brass studs which attach the heavy card backing are missing - likely extracted to enable removal of the original photo - and are not present. A circa 1900's [?] single leaf letter of introduction for a traveling member of the Royal Scarlet, having their fraternal symbols printed in blue with the relevant text overprinted in red onto lightweight vellum paper, 8-3/16 x 10-1/4 inches wide. Letter is unused, very slightly rolled with a few light creases. The Orange Order is a fraternal organization formed in Ireland in 1795 in honor of William of Orange's 1690 victory at the Battle of Boyne. The Royal Scarlet Chapter is the highest degree of the Orange Order.
