Description:
Faber & Faber. First edition published by Faber and Faber in 1932. A very good or better copy. The fragile wrapper has been price clipped, otherwise it is all there. The spine has browned and there is some wear to the spine ends. There is a tear to the bottom of the lower flap and this has been repaired on the reverse by archival tape. The green boards are in nice shape and the book is square. The purple top stain is visible and has not faded. There is light and sporadic foxing to the side text block. There is no writing inside and no bookplates. The Last Medici is the first of three biographies Harold Acton wrote about historical Italian families: the Medicis and the Bourbons. Acton in this first volume discusses the Medici grand dukes and in particular their final undoing. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1932.

Pan. 8vo., black boards with backstrip lettered in silver; together in the dust jacket featuring a holographic image of an elephant seal [?] and a dinosaur; pp. [vi], 7-191, [i]; a near-fine copy, slightly bumped to foot of spine, a couple of trivial spots to the upper edge; ink stamp '419' to the ffep; aside from very minor shelf-wear to jacket, fine. First edition, signed by the author, and dated in the year of publication. Loosely inserted is also a flyer from the signing at Forbidden Planet, London, on Saturday 1st December [1984]. The fourth book in the Hitch Hiker's series, the book marks a shift in tone from Adam's previously cynical depiction of modern technology. Adams had purportedly been taken to a computer fair, in which he became enamored with the first model of the Macintosh, and became one of the first people in the UK to own a Mac. "So long and thanks for all the fish" was the dolphin's final message as they departed Earth, just before it was…

Chatto & Wndus. 8vo., brown publisher's cloth lettered in gilt to spine; upper edge stained brown; complete in the striking original dust jacket designed by Paul Nash (7s. 6d. net); pp. [x], 3-278, [vi, ads.]; end papers very mildly offset; perhaps a little creased along spine, but otherwise a near fine example, the jacket a touch toned in places, with minor chipping to head/foot of spine and edges of folds; the illustrations retaining all of their brightness; a very fresh copy overall. First edition. Thirteen short stories based on his experiences in the war. Aldington was first sent to the front in December 1916, and during his time there wrote a number of essays and poems, though his experiences of gas in the trenches had a profound impact on both his life, and of course his writing. Alongside Images of War and Images of Desire, Roads to Glory was one of his first publications following his return home, and explores themes of fate, rivalry, and haunting regret. "We pass and…

Hodder & Stoughton. First edition published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1951. A very good copy. The striking Leslie Wood designed dust wrapper has three mended tears, one to the bottom of the front panel and two to the top corners. All three have been mended to the reverse of the jacket with archival tape. The wrapper is in complete condition and is not price clipped displaying 9/6 net on the inside flap. The publishers original maroon cloth boards are in nice condition. It is a tight and square copy, unmarked by ink. There is light flecking to the text block and some browning to the first couple of pages. Overall a very good copy. A respectable copy of this very rare espionage / murder mystery novel. It is the first one of five penned pseudonymously by Eric Ambler and Charles Rodda. It has become rare to find Eliot Reed novels of late, and in particular the early ones including this one. . It is the first state jacket without the booker flash. The promotional wraparound band has a single crease along the spine, presumably where a previous owner has folded it and tucked it inside the book. The book itself in brown cloth, is excellent, with one corner that has been gently pushed. The pages are clean and without marks. The booker prize winning novel from 1986. This book is rare as it retains the promotional band and is signed by Kingsley Amis to the title page. . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1986.

Jonathan Cape. London: Jonathan Cape, 1986 8vo., black publisher's cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, with publisher's device gilt to foot; preserved in the striking unclipped pictorial dust jacket (£9.95 net), with cover illustration by Fred Marcellino, and a black-and-white photograph of the author to the lower flap; pp.[xii], 13-324, a fine copy, essentially, perhaps mildly bumped to head, and pages faintly and evenly toned, as is common; jacket clean and bright, ever-so-slightly creased to the upper edge. First UK edition, originally published in Canada the previous year. This edition becoming increasingly more elusive. A pioneering work of dystopian fiction, The Handmaid's Tale is told from the perspective of Offred, a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead.
