NY: Butler Brothers, n.d.. Likely a First. VG. Front ffep removed. Likely printed on iron rich news print as all the pages have an even brown tone. This does not influence the ability to read the text./None. May be the 1st NY Cav, Lincoln's Cavalry. Not sure. The author was reluctant to disclose his outfit, something suspicious. He writes much about Union political matters at the start of the War. The narrative ends after Seven Days so an early account.

n.p.: American Tract Society, {ca. 1863}. Likely a First. HB. Very small book meant for children or a shirt pocket. Book is worn as it has been used, but not abused. Pencil figures on ffep. Overall just G./No Jacket. Inscribed on ffep with, "To Wanda, From Father, 1863." " Help ? you while I am away with the army." Odd, but it contains two title pages. The second title is a varient of the first one. Contains eight separate stories with heavy dose of illustrations in each. Certainly has seen some use, but holding together nicely in its original binding. A special keepsake. Unfortunately we don't know who the soldier was or his fate.

London: Hugh Rees, 1908. First. HB. Book is as close to near fine as any 100 plus year old book./No jacket. Dornbusch IV-12807. a lot of maps, all required are present and near fine.

Los Angeles: Times-Mirror, 1906. First. Hard Bound. G+Lettering rubbed and faded.Interior VG+/None. Mix of bio from Civil War (8th NY Heavy Artillery) and life in the West during the 1880s. Anderson was an adventurer who went West (Dakota Territory) after the Civil War. Seven chapters of his book deal with his Civil War experiences. Nevins I-52. (Not in "Six Guns.").

London: Hugh Rees, 1912. Second Impression. HB. Minor soiling, spine faded but lettering still good. Text VG./No Jacket.. One of the great English staff study books, lacking personal grandizement, etc. required 14 maps, all present. Nevins I-22: "...tersely written, generally accurate outline...".

NY: E.P. Dutton, 1929. First. HB. Good +/No Jacket. [MEMOIR-CONFEDERATE] A Southern woman's (Mrs. Henry Dulany) memoirs. This is predominantly Civil War, but runs over into WWI with her family. The CW portion is a journal kept by the author's aunt in Virginia. There is a chapter on Confederate flags and seals. Her CW relative was Charlie Minnigerode, aide to Fitzhugh Lee.

Charleston: Evans and Cogswell, 1863. First. HB. Rebound minimal xlib., new end papers. Normal Confederate imprint page toning. Otherwise VG./No Jacket. [CONFEDERATE IMPRINT-MANUAL] A very rare one at that, not in standard bibliographies, but found in P&W 4721 and Crandall 2392. Any Confederate artillery manual is rare, this the first I've seen dealing with a mounted unit. The author commanded the 1st Maryland Light Artillery, CSA.

NY: Neale Publishing, 1914. First. Hard Bound Hard Bound. X-library with spine numbers, very small blind stamp on bottom of title page, pocket remnents, bookplate. Sounds worse than it really is. Square and tight, gold lettering bright.Good hinges./None.. Krick. Nevins II-37. Account of one of the first Confederate martyrs. Ashby served under Stonewall during the valley campaign where he was fatally wounded. His death was mourned throughout the Confederacy. Not a real common title.

Washington City: Published For the Author, 1870. First Edition. Wraps bound into ¾ leather. Spine chipping in the leather, corners rubbed. Hinges good./No Jacket. Presentation to General Winfield S. Hancock. Also tipped in is an Hancock signature with Maj Gen after his name. Very rare narrative from directly after the War. Heavy on the navy and which is disrespectful in many ways to both the service and high ranking officers. It has a "chapter," he calls them "letters," on the Red River Campaign. Wraps bound into ¾ leather. Text VG+. THIS IS A PRESENTATION COPY TO THE GREAT UNION CIVIL WAR GENERAL, WINFIELD S. HANCOCK. THERE IS AN INSCRIPTION ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER TO THAT AFFECT. HANCOCK WAS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN THE 1880S. also TIPPED IN IS THE SIGNATURE OF HANCOCK WITH MAJ GEN AFTER HIS NAME. A RARE COMBINATION!!

Raleigh: Edwards & Broughton, 1893. First. Wraps bound into boards. Xlib with nearly all the faults.. Front wrap tattered and taped, but nearly all present.. See photo. However, the text is very good and nicely bound./No Jacket.. This a copy of a speech given by Avery, a NC Supreme Court judge on the date given. Very little is found on Hill who gained Lieutenant General rank in the Confederate Army. He was Stonewall's brother-in law and good friends with Joe Johnston and James Longstreet. He had great abilities and was well respected, but he was underutilized by the end of the Civil War because of political feuds with Davis and Lee. The author served in the "Bloody Sixth" North Carolina and was on Hill's staff for a period.

Raleigh: Edwards and Broughton, 1893. First. Wraps. Protected by a cardboard clamshell folder. Light chipping to the leading edges of both wraps. Soiled front right corner of the front wrap. Rest VG./None. Very little found on this gifted Confederate general. He was controversial and argumentative which cost him in his military career. "He was known as an aggressive leader, being severely strict, deeply religious and having dry, sarcastic humor. He was brother-in-law to Stonewall Jackson, a close friend to both James Longstreet and Joseph E. Johnston, but disagreements with both Robert E. Lee and Braxton Bragg cost him favor with Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
