The first single-volume edition of Harris' The Emigrant Family, first published in three volumes in 1849, with a new title: Martin Beck after its dominant character. A descriptive text of this work is on one of the photos provided. This is a very clean and good copy inscribed on title page with signature of first owner whose name also appears stamp-printed on spine base.

Extremely rare first edition in exceptional near fine condition in elegant contemporary (circa 1850) private binding. The author of this first comprehensive treatise on administration was a prominent French lawyer and politician of the mid-19th Century. A member of the Chambre des Députés, his book is based on a two-part article he contributed to the Revue des Deux Mondes 1841. It appears that most copies of this first edition were destroyed by fire. A second, enlarged edition appeared in 1852 in 2 vols.

Apparently two copies of this 48 page brochure exist in the BNF. These are the only ones we have been able to locate - so, VERY RARE! This is an argument in favour of a drastic (two-thirds) reduction to leave only the light brigades, still in 1869 potentially useful on the battlefield.This booklet was purchased by Louis Tronchin, a Colonel in the Swiss Federal Army. This Fourth Edition, dated 1837, which genuinely can be considered as a "First thus", includes a preface to the Third Edition in which the author states that she has added: "some verses illustrative of each subject".In addition to the 1833 First Edition is added "The Author's Apology".
