Article extracted from Proceedings of Royal Geographical Society and bound in card covers. 22 pages in fine condition. I think the first page of the article is a high quality reproduction. Lecture by Greely touches upon his Arctic exploration begun in 1881. He mentions the Franklin rescue efforts. Author also discusses the dangers of Arctic work and his personal experience. "We suffered about as much discomfort as I have suffered in my life in a given amount of time." They were trapped with one month of provisions at the onset of 7-8 months of winter. Adams is important in the history of the progress of science as he strongly advocated experimental science. I have provided a page from his lecture: "On The Method of Reasoning in Natural Philosophy" (p. 98 this volume) describing his commitment to experimental science. Volume 3 of Adams' Lectures. 1794. Series had 4 volumes of text and one volume of plates. This volume in original full leather boards. Boards are almost off. Text block is sound and volume could be recased easily in original boards. Interior is very good; foxing in front and rear pages; internally minimal foxing; no vandalism. Old owner's note on blank end paper. Complete as published plus quire 3 (pages 17-32) from volume 4 accidentally inserted between pages 576-577 here. Does not detract from volume in any way. This is a used in flight magazine from Air New Zealand, 1987. It has creases, stains and signs of general use. American Tract Society pamphlet #33 circa 1855, New York. This pamphlet has inscription containing date, 1855. Numerous books and pamphlets with similar titles were produced by a variety of authors so there is understandably some confusion. I am reasonably confident this is the first American edition of this particular pamphlet. The Society frequently 'borrowed' material from the UK publishers so there may be earlier UK editions. The primary condition feature this pamphlet has going for it is that it still exists and is complete. As you can see from the images it is faded, stained, smudged and the cover is almost off.
