The frontispiece photo reproduces the Balch Memorial Medal desiged by Adam Pietz, and awarded yearly for meritorious work by Chapter II, Philadelphia, Colonial Dames of America, and was originally struck in gold.

Second Binfords & Mort printing ($ 2.25 price on front flap) of this Pacific Northwest classic located on the Columbia River when the legendary Bridge of the Gods still spanned the river. This was the first edition to feature the aerial photo of the Bridge of the Gods toll bridge which had been raised due to construction of the Bonneville Dam.
