Macmillan Co. 1928. 434 pages. The covers are dark green with gold lettering on front and spine. There is very minor scuffing on covers. Top edge of spine is moderately rubbed. The interior is very clean. The only writing appears on the front free endpaper and is a short inscription to the owner (dated Christmas, 1929). Otherwise the interior is bright, some very small spots on a couple of pages. It contains many half-page and full-page black and white photographs of trees. The binding is intact, but loose in some spots.

Rinehart & Co., Inc. New York, Toronto. 1949. ix. 222 pages. This is the first printing of the 1949 edition as denoted by the circled "R" on the copyright page. As mentioned on the inside flap of the dust jacket, the 1949 edition was produced to celebrate the 20th year anniversary of this natural history classic originally published in 1928. The green covers are in good plus condition. There is moderate bumping at the top/bottom of spine and corners along with color loss along the spine and cover edges. The title and author are in bright gold on the spine. The covers retain much of their original color, there is some faint spotting, especially on the back cover. The binding is solid. The dust jacket is in good minus condition; it is quite worn. There is fraying, some tears, and moderate to heavy toning along most of the edges. A few chips are present. Author, title and insect in black on front cover and spine. The dust jacket is bright and colorful with no markings, only lightly frayed at edges; it is not price clipped. The interior pages are clean and bright. There is no writing. The book contains 16 full-page color plates and many other black and white illustrations that are in terrific condition. This books appears to have been rarely used. A nice, collectible, early printing of a classic field guide.

Sierra Club. 1961. 204 pages. Covers are light tan with brown spine in very good condition. Interior is very clean and bright. There are no markings inside. There is some spotting along the outside top edge of the pages, but this is not visible from the interior of the book. There are 26 beautiful black and white photographs by Philip Hyde. The book includes writings by Ansel Adams, Sigurd Olson and Joseph Wood Krutch. The dust jacket is bright, but does include several small tears (less than 1 in.) along the edges and one larger tear (approx. 1 3/4 in.) on front bottom. The dust jacket is protected by a clear Mylar cover.

The covers are in very good minus condition, their original green color is still quite vivid with only a couple of small scuff marks on them. The most significant issue is bumping at the corners, the most noticeable is the bottom front corner which is creased. There is also some minor loss at the bottom fore-edges of both the front and back cover (less than 1" long). The title and author(s) are stamped in dark green on the front cover and spine. There is some rubbing and creasing on the top and bottom of the spine, along with a couple of other marks, but overall, the spine is still attractive. The binding is solid. The interior of this book is in very good plus condition. There no writing, markings or foxing detected. The pages are clean and bright.
