Description:
The First UK printing published as a pamphlet by the Unicorn Bookshop, Brighton, in 1968. One of just 250 copies of which the first 50 were signed and numbered by the author. This copy is unsigned and unnumbered. Quarto. Original silk screened wrappers. Stapled as issued. In near Fine condition with just a hint of toning to the spine. Housed in a custom solander box with gilt titling. This very scarce title is 'written in the style of a scientific paper and catalogues an apocryphal series of bizarre experiments intended to measure the psychosexual appeal of Ronald Reagan, who was then the Governor of California and candidate for the 1968 Republican presidential nomination'. A bookseller who sold the pamphlet was charged with obscenity In 1970. The pamphlet was added as an appendix to Doubleday's first American edition of 'The Atrocity Exhibition', which was destroyed prior to release. A Very scarce 'Ballard' title. Most wrappers appear on the market as clipped and it is scarce to find the wrapper with the original price intact with no overlay of the publisher's revised price. Tiny curl to the spine tips with light creasing to the upper spine end. A few spots to the edges on the verso but these do not show through to the front. Just a hint of toning to the wrapper but barely noticeable. The Craig Dodd wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Description:
A 15 x 10 cm postcard sent by Edward Bawden from Milan to fellow Bardfield artist Michael Rothenstein. The card is in Very Good++ condition with just a tiny amount of rubbing at the upper corners. Bawden has written on the verso : I am pleased to hear that you have been successfully unstitched: by now I hope you are on your feet'….presumably a reference to Rothenstein s divorce from his wife Duffy. Bawden goes onto say.'The Biennale was worth coming to see. England seemed to be the only country unrepresented. This card is a bit old fashioned, but the latest and most violent forms of painting - of which there is a very great deal - would appear to have no sale in postcard reproduction, Best wishes Edward . An interesting association postcard. The card is protected in a removable archival transparent folder. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
