Facing the Sampson bookplate Is an earlier bookplate donating the title to the "Amarinthine Literary Society" of the Pennsylvania Female College - presumably the institution founded in 1851 in Montgomery County, PA as Montgomery Female Seminary. The glue back binding shows evidence of glue shrinkage and a mild gap in the glue back is apparent between pages 86 & 87. This is not recommended as a reading copy; as with any mass market 1st edition of a vintage paperback, any but the most careful reading can give rise to a break in the integrity of the binding.
