New Haven: Privately Printed, 1909. First edition. PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING POET'S FIRST BOOK, written the year he graduated Yale University. INSCRIBED BY BACON, "Charles A. Bennett / ex dono auctoris [a gift of the author]." From the collection of cartoonist Claude Smith with his penciled ownership signature. Light blue paperwraps printed on front only; most pages unopened. Old damp stain along spine and with yapped (over-hanging) edges of the fragile paper covers chipped. Good at best but a scarce book, scacer still signed by Bacon.

Hartford, Conn.: S. S. Scranton & Company, 1887. First edition. An early book detailing General Grant's experiences, by his military secretary Adam Badeau. Numerous illustrations ranging from "The Surrender of Lee" to "Death of General Grant," nearly twenty in all; additionally illustrated with facsimiles from various icons, such as President Johnson and Mrs. Lincoln. An impressive book that would look outstanding in any Civil War or Presidential collection. Very good in original brown cloth, with some spotting and rubbing on edges of illustrated boards.

Leipzig: Karl Baedeker, 1904. Third revised edition. This particular handbook-- the first Baedeker originally written in English -- was first published in 1893. Includes twenty-five colored maps and thirty-five plans, many of which are folding and two-page. Flexible red cloth boards with gilt lettered front and spine; marbled page edges. About very good with edges lightly rubbed, few soiled spots, name plate inside front cover, name on verso of free endpaper, and another stamped on title page then crossed out, and damp stain to edge of frontis map.
