Description:
London: Elkin Mathews, 1916. First paperback edition, first printing. This is a good copy. Unfortunately, the front panel is detached from the spine. Otherwise, this is a rather clean copy with very little foxing (as common on this title) present. Printed on wove paper, Binyon has warmly inscribed to fellow poet and international scholar Carl Kjersmeier, reading: 'To Carl Kjersmeier fraternal greeting from Laurence Binyon. Dec 1916'. Inscribed in the year of publication, this is a rather fine presentation copy from poet to poet. The text blocks are clean and the internals equally so. Overall, this is a good copy.Marked by many as a follow-on from his eternal poem 'For the Fallen', The Anvil is peppered with allusions to war and its causes.

Description:
London: Elkin Mathews, (1894). First edition, first printing. One of 300 copies printed. This is a very good (or better) copy. The publishers blue cloth-bound boards, with the gilt publishers emblem to the front panel, are slightly bumped at the corners. The spine is slightly sunned and the gilt titling and bordering is marked. The front panel is a touch rubbed. The internals are mostly clean, but with some light foxing to the front and rear endpapers. The rough-cut text blocks are free from foxing. The author has signed to the front fly leaf: "J. N. C. from the author, Feb 1. 1894". The signature is markedly bold for Binyon's hand, and appears to be written using a different fountain pen or ink than is typical. Overall, this is a very good (or better) copy. The author's third notable publication, but the first published in book form.

Description:
Leeds: Swan Press, (1925). First and only limited edition. This is a very good (or better) copy. Limited to 200 copies, this being number 49. There is a slight nick to the front panel and some very light soiling to the top edge, which unfortunately bleeds to the rear. Very slight creases are present to both panels. The red titling is bright and the red stitching is tight. Printed by Sydney Matthewman at the Sign of the Swan. This copy was given as a Christmas gift, presumably to one of the author's close friends. It is inscribed: "With best wishes for Christmas from Cicely and Laurence Binyon" in black ink. Overall, this is a very good copy – copies are scarcely signed, particularly by Laurence and his wife. Binyon's translation of nine tanka into rhymed metrical verse. Seven of these appears in Binyon's Catalogue of Japanese and Chinese Woodcuts in the sup-Dept of Oriental Prints & Drawings in The British Museum (1916).

Description:
London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1957. First edition, second printing. This is a near fine copy. The John Minton dust wrapper has some light shelf wear, with one small closed tear present to the lower panel. Shows the eight 'puffs' on the lower panel', and is stated '2nd impression' to the front flap. It has not been price clipped (15s. net). The boards are without notable wear and the text blocks are free from foxing. Present on the front fly, playwright John Osborne has written: '10. 4. 57. To dear Alan, with many many thanks for "The Entertainer" – John O'. Jagg was credited with the décor in Osborne's famed play The Entertainer, making this a fantastic association between the playwright and an individual involved in stagecraft. Osborne evidently found Room at the Top a good gift for his colleagues. This is a near fine copy. Published in the same month as the first impression (March). An instant debut success from John Braine and my favourite novel by far.
