T. Marinetti, Anna and Martino Oberto, Ugo Carrega, Mario Diacono, Daniela Palazzoli, Eugenio Miccini and Michele Perfetti, and Arrigo Lora-Totino), and an extensive bibliography of books, anthologies, group exhibitions, and magazines. Fresno, CA: George Ballis, 1965. First printing. 23 pp., 8.5 x 11 inches. Stapled into printed wrappers. The Liberal democrat, launched in 1960, was an alternative magazine covering politics from a California perspective. With this issue (and a new editor/publisher), the name was changed to Pacific Scene, to emphasize its independence, and counter the mistaken impression (despite the deliberately lower-case “d” in its original name) that the magazine was somehow connected to the Democratic Party. Five more issues followed before the magazine ceased publication in June of 1965. Contents of this issue include: “Moses of Mississippi raises some universal questions” by Bob Moses of SNCC; “Emperor of the Sequoias Shows How to Fire a Union Teacher” by the editor George Ballis; editorials, reviews, and correspondence; other short articles with California focus; and, especially notable, the “Web of Financial Power,” a two-page chart that occupies the centerfold position, visualizing the dense and… Read more

Brooklyn, NY: Assembling Press, 1980. First printing. Paperback. Very Good. (48) pp., 8vo. A "philosophic artist's book," in stapled self-wrappers, accompanied by a single folded printed sheet with introductory text ("Open Structure for a Philosophical Experiment," reprinted from A Critical Assembling, 1979), enclosed in clasp envelope with printed cover label. From the artist's site: "A loop of thread connects the midpoint of each page. The work explores various dimensions of the book form through four series of diagrams accompanied by texts and instructions. These graphic-textual progressions migrate over the outer margin of adjacent pages, through the gutter on the inside of a folded sheet, through the gutter on the outside of a folded sheet, or across the gutter from one page to the next." Very faint indentations from back of clasp to introductory sheet and booklet, contents otherwise fine; envelope lightly rumpled and faded at edges, cover label scuffed and with some very light bleed-through of… Read more
