Foxing (fairly heavy on title-leaf, light elsewhere). Six digit number stamped at top of first text leaf. No separate wrapper present. Bacon was one of the leading lights of Congregationalism during his lifetime. This is Bacon's closely argued dismissal of the criticisms of Garrison and others of the schemes of the American Colonization Society.

Inner hinges stiff (new free endpapers partially pasted down). Former owner's name. Note in one of the volumes indicates that this set was purchased from us sometime in the past and then had work done on it by a binder in Athens. Folding maps creased several times and misfolded.

Untitled outer wrapper with stapled and ribbon-tied 4-page program printed in blue on single sheet of white paper folded to form four double-leaved pages (final page blank). 21 cm, Text on third page begins "Pearl Bailey, one of America's best loved entertainers, was raised in Washington, D.C. ..." 2 items laid in: Dinner menu (stiff 10 x 16 cm. gilt-edged card to accompany program and a stiff 10 x 6 cm. place card ("Mr. Stack" is the name beneath the Presidential Seal). Bailey, then on tour in Boston with "Hello Dolly," was asked to provide the After-Dinner Program for this occasion because Johnny Cash was unable to perform. According to information posted online by the Ford Presidential Library, Omar Sharif, a guest at the dinner, was brought on stage to join Bailey in singing "Easy to Love." Bailey was apparently much admired by the Sadats and had been given the First Order of Arts and Science of Egypt by President Sadat in 1974.
