Woodruff was a barkentine sailing ship that was caught in a fierce storm on Lake Michigan in 1878 and began breaking up near shore by the White River Light Station. Multiple efforts were made to save the crew, and while some drowned, most were saved. This account of the ship and its final tragedy the subject of Ceasar's book which is set in typescript and printed on only one side of each page. Original publisher's blue cloth covers with gilt spine and cover lettering. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. This is a rather early work on political economy by an American whose impetus for writing this work was caused by the proposal of a new tariff system. The author examines the history of government revenues, taxes, and more importantly the American system. An uncommon work whose author is given as "One of the People," but is identified by Sabin as Churchill Cambreleng who was a representative to Congress from New York.
