This assumed first edition is clean, tight, square and internally unmarked, but there is a small, neat name on the front paste down. It is lightly bumped/rubbed mainly at the spine and edges. It has 504, clear, minimally toned pages illustrated with copper plate and tissue guarded steel plate, black & white engravings bound in olive drab colored cloth covered boards. The are in a gold box on the spine and front where there are black decorations and drawings. The rear has a blind stamp of the same scene as on the front.

This book is clean, tight, square and internally unmarked, but there is a 1920, pencil gift inscription on the half title page. It is rubbed at the edges with slightly rounded corners and faded spine label. The brich bark motif on the pictorial boards is disconcerting. It has decorative end papers and 184, bright, clear pages with gilt edges at the top and rubbed deckle edges elsewhere. It is illustrated with black & white plates and a color frontispiece and is bound in pictorial paper covered boards with faded titles on a paste down on the spine.

There is foxing throughout, but still clear and legible. It is rubbed at all edges and the corners are bumped, but still good. he spine covering has fallen off some time in the past and been replaced with a piece of tape on which title are written in ink. The tape does not extend beyond the binding and shows the outline of the signatures. It has light surface soil. It has a one-quarter binding with white (now bit tanned) tape on the spine over light blue boards. Maybe fair/good would have been a better assessment of its condition.
