Description:
New York: Random House, 1958. First Edition, First Printing. First Printing of both the book and the dust jacket. Book with 'First Printing' stated on the copyright page. Original dust jacket with $3.50 price printed on the front flap a the top, and 10/58 on the bottom. The dust jacket comes protected in a removable and archival mylar jacket protector. Both the book and dust jacket are in Very Good condition, and have been exceptionally well preserved. There is only some light generalized wear. The paper is fresh and clean, with no foxing. No previous owner's names. The dust jacket has some abrasion along the extremities and minor edge chips of only a few mm's in length, the largest being at the top of the spine, extending less then a quarter of an inch down. The dj is a little brittle, has some uneven sun fading, and the rear flap has a split along the inner flap fold that is near halfway down, not visible on the shelf, and is recommended that it be left in the archival protector… Read more

Dust jacket with 1/66 on the front flap, $5.95 price, and with "Publishers Of The American College Dictionary And The Modern Library" at the bottom of the rear flap. In very good condition, very fresh and well preserved. The dust jacket is protected in a removable archival protector. Garden City & New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1917 - 1926. Bound in full limp leather bindings. Gilded spines and covers. top edges are gilded. Gilded covers depicting a ship on the sea. Nautical scened end papers. 7 inches tall. A little over 20 inches of shelf space. In excellent condition. The leather is supple. All the hinges are strongly attached, some with some starting. Lord Jim with pencil checks on half title page. Some uneven spine wear, as shown. Still a very fresh and well preserved set of Conrad. Early name. Conrad's works are hard to find. These display beautifully. Conrad is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English, although he did not speak the language fluently until he was in his twenties (and then always with a marked Polish accent). He wrote stories and novels, predominantly with a nautical setting, that depict trials of the human spirit by the demands of duty and honour.
