Ostensibly a travel narrative told in 54 letters, it describes the politics, people, and landscape of Mexico through the eyes of a Spanish diplomat's wife, thus providing a unique lens into the culture. Overall, the account documents class distinctions of Mexican women, perspectives on Indians, and the tumultuous political atmosphere, including two revolutions.[ Sabin 9889. Uncommon.

n.p. (Mérida, Yucatan): n.p. (Hu'un), n.d.. Stiff card wraps. Fine. An accordion book in the style of a Mayan Codex. Closed, it measures 4 by 4½ inches. The covers are of stiff card made of handmade Mayan paper; the text, printed on both sides, is on handmade Mayan paper by Hu'un. When fully opened,d it measured about 4 by 42 inches. This is a retelling of a part of the Popol Vuh, the Mayan story of Creation. Each section of the narrative if accompanied by a full color reproduction of one of Callaghan's representation of the cycle. There are 10 full color plates as well as a full color double-[age spread. Callaghan has retold the beginning of the story in Spanish. The final final page dedicates the books to the cornmen, the plants, animals and minerals that make up our earth in the hope to see us all live in harmony. A fine copy of a lovely artist book, and uncommon.

Oxford: Emberlin and Son, 1890. First edition. Stiff card wraps. Fine. The Letter-Writing pamphlet is 4 by 3". 39pp. State first edition. Publisher's ads appear on pages 36-39, and the last page is blank. This state is not described by Williams, else it bears the earliest possible date of 1890, with the 'first published, 1890' statement on the verso of the cover The stamp case bears the statement on the rear: "Invented by /[Cheshire cat smile] /Lewis Carroll/MDCCCLXXXIX". The case into which it slips is the second state (Williams 194.1) with the publisher's imprint above the Cheshire cat. This is a very nice set with hardly any trace of wear and only normal signs of ageing. The outer envelope is not present.

Publisher's green cloth blocked in black and gilt, with the title on both spine and upper board, and the publisher's imprint and a floral device in gilt, a floral border in gilt on a black ground, and a floral device in black on the upper boards. Chocolate brown coated endpapers. Badly bound by the publisher--some inner signatures stand proud. Light wear to the spine tips and edges, some light rubbing, inner hinge split but firm, else a very good copy. With the reset chess diagram, replacing the Kings missing from the board since the 25th thousand. Very unusual in green cloth instead of the more typical red cloth. See Williams, Madan & Green , No. 84a.

All edges gilt. Seventieth thousand on the title page. Nicely and nearly invisibly rebacked with the original spine laid on. Some soil and spotting to the boards, wear to the gilt, but still a presentable binding. The textblock is a littler darkened with age and the frontispiece tissue has offset onto both the title and the frontispiece else this is a very good copy and a great first edition look alike.
