"DENKE AN GROSSHESELO he Fur Erinnerung an deinen Freund" which I believe translates as "Remember Grossheselo he. - In memory of your friend" This signed and dated Max Waydtmann, Cadet. Munchen 3rd February 1823. Within each letter of this inscription is another word inscribed, these would appear to be the names of other Cadets although some contain other words, i.e. (translated) "The Magnificent Court Theatre in the Year 1817 Wieseroffriet". There then follows 34 individual leaves inscribed by indivdual cadets, these are dated 1822-1825 (mostly 1823), one with attractive affixed black paper "box" with lift up flaps, one flap inscribed "Sey Treulos" with "nie deinen Freund" revealed below; another flap inscribed "Verachte Alle" with " die dire bases Zutrauen" revealed below, & "Liebe Niemand" with "als dein Madeben" revealed below. Gilt Admiralty crest on upper cover and Admiralty prize label on front pastedown. The binding by Thomas de la Rue & Co. with their ticket. Band of fading to upper cover, else in excellent condition and very attractive on the shelf.

John Russell Smith, Lomdon, 1853. First edition. Tinted frontispiece, title vignette. 8vo (8 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches), pages: 220:4 (Publisher's catalogue). Original red cloth blocked in blind and gilt. Headband snagged, cloth to outer joint partialy cracked but very firm. Prelims. a little foxed.

Engraved frontispiece, three engraved plates, and large hand-coloured multi fold map of Wales. 4to (11 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches), pages xxxii:237:(5, index). old half-calf, marbled boards. Good 20th Century reback in tan calf, spine gilt in compartments. Some foxing or age toning to prelims. Corners rubbed and rounded, fore-edge of boards rubbed. With the armorial bookplate of Thomas Graham Jackson, Architect, on front pastedown. An attractive copy in very good order.

With covering autograph letter signed to R. C. Kebell - "Here's the doggerel screed for better or for worse. If the chief thinks it too long, the managers could be cut, but I would rather not sacrifice the deserved tribute to C. F. C. I had to get it off my chest - otherwise it haunts me…". Publisher's full bevelled crimson morocco gilt, all edges gilt, fore-edge with coloured tabulations. A little scuffing to lower cover, overall very good and very sound. A substantial volume weighing 5.3 kg thus extra postage will be requested.
