Conceived, set and printed by Michael Caine on papier velin Somerset blanc 300g. 20 x 50 cms, 4 very large pages of 82 different typefaces in a folding leporello, loose as issued in gold/yellow paper wrappers printed in purple ink.||The typefaces are all sampled in letterpress printed with their names in their own type through the ages from Lombardiques to Linéales.|

1827. Original wood engraving, printed on thick wove paper. Third State of the engraving. 83 x 128 mms. Framed.||The earliest of Calvert’s visionary wood engravings, made in the year of Blake’s death who had such a strong influence on Calvert and this work in particular. The first state was printed by the artist in only six impressions. This third state was the one printed in Calvert’s first formal publicaiton “A Memoir of Edward Calvert, Artist; by his Third Son’ in 1893, the printing is from, and in the Carfax Portfolio of 1904 for which a further 30 impressions were issued. The block from which this was printed is now in the British Museum.|Lister 6c.

Very slightly soiled on the outside but generally very good.||Although Carstares was a strong and pivotal supporter of the Act of Union, and the Hanoverian succession, as this pamphlet shows, he was alarmed by intereference with Scottish religious affairs by the Parliament in London. He pointed to the ways in which a bill to give Scottish Episcopalians greater freedom would disrupt and threaten the security of the Church of Scotland and of the state as well. It was the chief object of his policy at this time to prevent Lord Oxford from strenghtening the Episcopalian Jacobites, especially two bills, one of which extended their privileges and the other which would have placed in the hands of old patrons the right of patronage which the Revolution Settlement had put in the hands of the elders and the Protestants.|

Original silver gelatin photograph on marked postcard paper and trimmed.||Mme Cayat de Castella used to strap herself to the undercarriage of her husband’s plane and then release herself at altitude. Square 8vo., original brown and cream paper covered boards with title on upper cover and spine, in the original dust jacket. Jacket slightly darkened at extremities, otherwise an extremely good copy.||Written in the middle of the 19th century, this is an extraordinary survey of the global eating habits of man from the means used by American Indians to suppress appetites to the sophistication of French cuisine.With a handprinted Christmas card from the printer inserted loose.|

London: printed by hand by Philip Sainsbury at the Cayme Press number xxxvi Queen’s Gate Mews Kensington, 1923. No. 52 of 75 special copies printed on hand made paper and signed by the artist. 25 woodcuts illustrating 25 proverbs. by Alexina Ogilvie. Sm. 4to., original black cloth backed paper covered boards with printed paper label on upper cover and spine lettered in gilt. Boards and endpapers darkened, headcaps chipped, otherwise a good clean copy internally.||The total edition was of 275 copies. The primitive style woodcuts are actually rather effective and the proverbs chosen often unusual: “I am black but I am not the devil”, “When thou seest thine house in flames approach and warm thyself at it” & “By the vicar’s skirts the devil climbs into the belfry”.|

Pp. 26, [1]. 22 x 25.8 cms, bound by Cedric Chivers of Bath (signed on lower turn-in) c.1898 to a design by Herbert Granville Fell, being transparent vellum over blue/grey painted paper boards, upper board with a pair of pink-winged angels clad in purple gowns with halos of mother of pearl and with a stippled corona, holding a banner with the book’s title, between and above the angels is a stylised rose tree with pink flowers, entwined stems and foliage, several small gilt tools, the lower board with a double heart-shaped lozenge round a pink rose and two sprays of lily of the valley, spine titled with green leaves and gilt dots, turn-ins ruled in gilt, marbled endpapers, yapp edges, top edge gilt. In effect a small reproduction of the Golden Cockerel Press Troilus with a more modern version of the text made by George Krapp and smaller scale facsimile reproductions of Eric Gill’s wood engravings. Sm. 4to., original cream paper backed blue cloth boards with gilt device on upper cover, gilt lettering on spine. Covers a little faded with a few small marks, otherwise good, without jacket.|||

One of 214 copies on Velin d’Arches, specially made for this edition, (this no.175). 12 lithographs by Edouard Chimot with an extra erotic lithograph inserted loose. 4to., in the original wrappers, with the original chemise and slipcase. Pp. xvi, 336, 32pp. of publisher’s advertisements at end. 8vo, original apple green cloth, lettering in gilt on spine and upper cover, original black endpapers. The binding is exceptionally bright with only very mild darkening to the spine. Folio, one 8 pp section, thirteen 4 pp French-fold sections, and one 4 pp section (40×29 cm), all loosely inserted into card wraparound and held in large colour-blocked solander box. Mint.||The seventh collaboration of artist and poet with thirteen screen printed removable wire and card puppets. The content of the book is based on material from Walter Jekyll’s ‘Jamaican Song and Story’, 1907. This version is a modern rendering in verse by Roy Fisher of the familiar tales central to Caribbean culture, concerning Anansi the spider man and his company of friends.|

Printed by hand on Khadi Indian hand-made paper, bound into tan handmade paper covers and inserted into grey card slip-case.||A series of 6 double-sided blind-embossed images printed in wire, which, when folded and juxtaposed in sequence, make eleven reclining nudes which change position from front to back view.|

She studied sculpture at Chelsea School of Art in the early 1950s, is a member of the Society of Portrait Sculptors and from 1987 to 2000 worked as a portrait sculptor at Madame Tussauds, London. |

No. 31 of 125 signed copies (the true number although 175 copies were meant to have been completed). 9 pop-up constructions made by Ron King by hand: the portcullis, the castle and even secrect chambers with Fisher’s verse incorporated into the ilk screen printed designs printed in Optima. 20 x 30cms, made up of 10 loose 4pp. sections silk screened throughout onto Hollingsworth paper all placed into a printed cardboard golder and held in a black Perspex tray with a clear lid. An excellent copy, except for the chipped clear lid of the box.||Based on the opera by Bartok, Ron King produced an astounding design based on his notion of seven doors leading to seven secret chambers within the castle, each opening to a stage set or structure - the book sections literally and visually performing their primary duty of opening and revealing.
