1899. Loose Map. Near Fine. An historic hand-colored map on linen, showing six early mining claims in south east British Columbia. Pen and ink with wash color on coated drafting linen, "Nov. 25th 99" and "E.C.H." at bottom right "International Boundary" written at lower left, map measures 9-1/8 inches tall x 7-3/4 inches wide to neat line, overall sheet size is 11-3/4 x 8-3/4 inches wide. Details show the Crow's Nest Branch of the C.P.R., the paddlewheeler landing at Kuskonook with an arrow pointing "To Nelson 60 Miles", the Port Hill border crossing, Kootenay and Goat Rivers, numerous creeks, the town of Kitchner and six different mine claims ; the La Grand, Cracker Jack, Cynic, Cymric, Dakota and the Idaho. Map with a few soil marks and light creases, else fine. This region is now highly developed with a multitude of additional mining claims surrounding the map claims area.

Port Louis, Mauritius: Mauritius Printing & Co., Ltd, 1956. Editions Sammer / Limited Edition. Loose Prospectus. Near Fine. Illustrated by Siegfried Sammer. Just a single copy of this scarce 1956 African prospectus found in institutional collections worldwide, that being held by the National Library of Australia. Text in French. "Kélibé-Kéliba" was issued in an edition of 300 copies with 20 illustrations - 3 being in color, and was further illustrated with horizontal and vertical bands of traditional motifs on pages without larger diagrams. Bifolium, 4to size (12.75 inches tall), pp. [4] This copy of the prospectus is signed in blue ink by Siegried Sammer and is accompanied by an original (10 x 8 inches) order form. Minor soil and creases, else Fine. Mauritius gained it's independence in 1968 and in 1969 "Kélibé-Kéliba" was chosen to represent the new country at the Festival of Popular Arts and Traditions of the World (now The Confolens Festival) in Confolens, France.

Charlottetown, P.E.I.: City of Charlottetown & P.E.I. Travel Bureau, 1941. First Edition. Map. At Least Very Good. Wartime issued tourist map of the City of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Map scale is 400 feet to 3/4 inch and is printed in blue ink onto white paper, issued folded for use as a pocket map and measures 13-7/8 tall x 22 inches wide. Interesting features shown are the Experimental Farm, the toll-free Hillsborough Bridge, RR stations, the Masonic Hall, Yacht Club, etc. Map with some toning and a single stain in bottom margin, else clean and unmarked. Scarce in the 1941 first edition (likely due to wartime paper shortages) this popular map was reprinted in 1949, 1954, then revised in 1961 and reprinted many times thereafter.

Hubin listed mystery where "... they provide thrill after thrill for the most blasé arm-chair jungle hunter..." [DJ flap], later filmed in 1936 as "The Girl From Mandalay". Orange cloth over boards, title stamped in black onto upper board and spine, 12mo (7-7/16 inches [18.8 cm] tall), pp. vi, 301. Volume with a small scuff to bottom edge of upper board, offset to eps and a faint erasure to front pastedown. Manila colored price-intact DJ is soiled with small stains and a few tiny chips. Dust jacket with jungle theme love triangle artwork by Joe Richards.

Ottawa, ON: Boy Scouts of Canada, 1949. Photograph. Fair. A great period image, capturing hundreds of Scouts, Sea Scouts, Rovers and a few scattered ladies in a "PROOF ONLY" group shot, taken at what appears to be the First Canadian Jamboree held at Connaught Camp, Ottawa, in 1949. This image has the same barracks and elevated water tank visible in the background of the [identified by small sign in front of group] 1949 Ontario Contingent group shot. Gelatin silver print, 10-1/8 inches tall x 30 inches wide and possibly a unique survivor, having "PROOF ONLY" rubber stamped 10 times in the sky and "Copyright Photo / Lingard Photographers / Ottawa" rubber stamped on verso. Lingard Studios closed in the mid-1950s (see Camera Club of Ottawa - 75 Years of Photography [1970] p.10). Saddle stapled wraps, title printed in white onto upper cover, 16mo (6-1/4 inches [15.9 cm] tall), pp. 21, (3) ads, illustrated. Some rubbing and light wear with what appear to be (strangely enough) scattered spots of silver polish to covers. Pub-date from a silverware pattern copyright date that is printed within text. A small salesman's brochure, published to help the ladies of the day in making their silverware decisions, right from bachelorhood to impressing the husband's boss and ultimately, keeping the family together with their fine selections.

Volume with creases and rubbing, else unmarked. The first issue of this publication for Barbie doll collectors, filled with all the latest Barbie news, auction prices and articles of interest.

Vancouver / Ottawa: National Harbours Board Canada, 1965. Card Slipcase. Fine. Printed card slipcase containing 2 folding maps [1964], a large folding promotional brochure/map, a N.H.B. News Bulletin dated March, 1965 and a small brochure titled "Progress and Development of the Port of Vancouver". Slipcase with slight toning and wear, contents fine. A set of promotional maps and brochures issued by National Harbours Board Canada to showcase the Port of Vancouver and to act as an aid in familiarizing potentional overseas and local companies with the area and it's services.

Ottawa: Transport Canada Avation, 1992. Second & Third. Prong-bound. Very Good. Two large flight manuals, both with original covers and punched for a three ring binder; both gathered in a single black duo-tang (prong-bound) binder. Previous owners name in ink at top of the Second edition cover, else both volumes clean and unmarked. Originally issued as interm documents when Ultra-Light and Hang Glider activity were both in their relative infancy, these uncommon manuals have since been superceded by the UPAC Ultralight Information Manual. Vancouver, BC: N. Caple & Co, 1895. Photograph. Near Very Good. The earliest - and only, 19th century Norman Caple Birds-Eye View photograph we have ever seen of Canmore, the now popular resort town in the Canadian Rockies. An albumen silver salts photograph, measuring 7 x 9.5 inches wide, and titled in negative along the lower edge "1306. Canmore, and Bow River Valley from Cochrane Coal Mines C.P.R. / N. Caple & Co., Photo. Vancouver, B.C." Circa mid-1890s, but not earlier than 1893, as Caple had established his own studio after his partnership with R.H. Trueman dissolved towards the end of 1893. Photo with remnants verso from a previous mounting, faint creases, some fading and a few small tears with tiny emulsion losses. An unusual case where rare content, trumps minor condition issues. Capturing here a busy and nascent 19th century Canmore, this image enlarges well to reveal much action and goings-on in the erstwhile coal town and its surrounds. Ref. Camera Workers, 1858-1950.

Saddle stapled paper wraps, printed on 8vo size, (9 inches tall) gold-tone paper, pp. 16 [inc. covers], illustrated throughout w. B&W photo reproductions. Volume w. old tape repair to spine, touch of rust to staples at centerfold, minor tears, soil and wear. Back cover w. an 8 line poem titled "The Golden City" by Elizabeth Maude Hardy and "Printed by The Rossland Miner, Rossland, B.C." printed at foot. Not found in Welwood's Kootenaiana (which does list the later 1958 Centennial and Fall Fair issue as item #1295), no online reference found by us on the Rossland Museum site, which only references their Winter Carnival items.

Circa 1890, but not later 1895, when she moved to her home studio and shortly thereafter auctioned off her business effects and retired in 1897. Covers rubbed, with some rusting to staples, a small abrasion at upper edge of top cover and a half inch tear at foot of spine fold. Published by SRA as an aid in it's reading comprehension programs, Mountains in the Sea is an excerpt from the 1958 Golden Press Young Readers Edition of The Sea Around Us, which in turn was adapted by Anne Terry White from Rachel Carson's bestseller, The Sea Around Us. A scarce Carson item - OCLC lists only 2 copies, both in University Libraries - and very unlikely to be found in good collectible condition, given its intended juvenile audience.

Side stapled illustrated wraps, small 4to (9-3/4 inches [24.3 cm] tall), pp. (16) ads, 898-1008, (16) ads, illustrated throughout with line drawings and photo reproductions. Volume with toning and light soil near edges, a small abrasion to front cover and tiny chips from each spine end, else clean and unmarked throughout. Rachel Carson's first nature story - My Favorite Recreation - was written when she was just 14 years old and is published here in the July, 1922 issue of St. Nicholas Magazine shortly after she turned 15. It tells of her explorations "... with a lunch-box, a canteen, a note-book, and a camera." while out wandering among the Pennsylvania hills. Also of note in the story is the inclusion of this ardent nature observer's favorite bird, the Wood Thrush. Ref. Lear (1998).
