Leather also well worn but gilt titling to spine still good. Lacking endpapers. Foxing throughout, some heavy, some light. Grime here and there, a few minor tears. Ex-library with a few markings. A few pencil markings including on frontis. Last 14 pages coming loose. This is the second edition,corrected and expanded.  (cfm)

In two volumes.  xii+412pp and xi+427pp.  1st edition.  Hardcovers.  Original binding with embossed designs on covers, lightly soiled but gilt on spine still bright.  Rear board of volume 1 is mottled and both volumes have the top two edge points gentle bumped. Internally, both volumes have a previous owners bookplate to the inside front board as well as his name penciled to the top of the title page.  Both tissue guards on frontispiece's are age toned with some off set to title pages, but otherwise pages are clean and bright. (1940). 1st edition, stated. 241pp. Hardcover with dust jacket.  Grey boards with tltle in white to front cover and spine is lightly soiling along hinges and spine strip. Page edges lightly dust stained. Internally end-pages age toned, with previous owners name penciled to top of 1st free end-page, and with some notes in both pencil and ink to rear free end-page. Otherwise, a very good, clean copy.  The dust jacket is still in one peice but quite shelfworn, with wear to all edges and folds (including small chips and tears). All corners of the jacket have been clipped.
