Description:
(New York): Nixon/Agnew Campaign Committee, (1968). First printing. (24) pp., 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Stapled into printed wrappers. Light edge-wear, a touch of rust to the staples, otherwise very good. Richard Nixon, in his 1968 campaign, carefully targeted a stratum of African American voters whom he thought he could attract. This brochure, with content similar to but more extensive than his ads in Jet magazine, for instance, uses evocative portrait photographs (that some have compared to the work of Gordon Parks) and features an image of Martin Luther King, as well as language — drawn from two Nixon speeches of 1968 — calculated to appeal to his intended middle-class and educated audience: "essential dignity of man"; "emerging pride of the Black American"; and so on. Somewhat remarkably, there is even an appeal to "listen to the militants -- carefully, hearing not only the threats but also the programs and promises." Essential to the campaign's strategy was the counsel and participation of black… Read more

Description:
Oberlin, OH: Pocket Pal Press, 1977. First printing. (20) pp., 7 x 8.5 inches. Stapled into printed card covers. Jean Duval Chapbook Series no. 2. Book design & layout by Jean Kondo Weigl; cover by Judy Garlan. Slight fading and faint spotting to edges of wrappers, and one mild corner bump, otherwise very good. The surprisingly scarce fourth book by Lux. After his translations, Lux quotes from the introduction to I. L. Salomon’s 1968 book of versions: DINO CAMPANA (1885–1932), the poet of Orphic Songs (Canti Orfici) was the wild man of Italian poetry in 1914 on the eve of the Great War. He is as important to 20th century poetry as, say, Lorca, or Mayakovsky. His poems and prose poems are unique. They read as if they were thrown into the wind in an ecstasy of violence. They reflect the disintegration of a man.

Description:
New York: F. Castle, 1966. First printing. Paperback. Very Good. 32 pp., 8vo. Five essays prompted by the group exhibition "Systemic Painting" curated by Lawrence Alloway; Lee, Gourfain, and Brunelle were among the artists in the exhibition. Contents: "A Systematic Revery from Abstraction to Now" by Lee; "Remarks to a Friend" by Gourfain; "Bunny Head Infinity" and "The Envy Thing" by Brunelle; and "Revelatory Brushwork with Autobiographical Implications" by Castle; prefaced by the translation of an excerpt from a letter by Alain Badiou. Edition of 1,000 copies. This copy warmly inscribed in 1981 by Castle to publisher and editor Bruce McPherson, who a few years later would publish Castle's novels Anticipation (1984) and Gilbert Green (1986). Columbus, OH: Wexner Center Bookshop, n.d.. First printing. 17 x 24 inches. Lithographic poster from photograph by Kevin Fitzsimons. Very slight rumpling, and faint unevenness in printing of solid black background, but essentially fine. One of several posters created for a sale at the shop of the Wexner Center (located on the OSU campus), which specializes in books by and about artists. In this clever image, copies from a series of twenty-six letter-titled books by Jan Voss are arranged to spell CECI N'EST PAS UN LIVRE ("this is not a book," a reference to the famed Magritte painting "Ceci n'est pas un pipe"), answered by the line "and this is not a poster."
