Calvino is one of the European Magic Realists who are generally treated as "too good to be science fiction". Ah well. This is a very nice copy, with the only notable flaw being a discreet previous owner's name and date/place of purchase on the front free endpaper. Top edge stained blue, jacket slightly sunfaded on spine (unclipped). A clean, nice copy of a modern classic. TW from WFW

First version of this story by Clarke, later rewritten as The City and the Stars. Many people prefer this original version, Jacket by Frank Kelly Freas (misspelled as "Frease" in the credits). Owings and Chalker report 5000 copies printed, no different binding states listed. Jacket has several small closed tears and a couple of chips missing, the largest on the top spine. Back panel has a few spots. Small tear in binding on spine bottom. Front gutter browning. A solid VG copy in VG jacket.
