The letter is in excellent condition and shows two horizontal folds for mailing and some slight bending to its upper left corner. Writing under the pen name "Marie Corelli, Mary Mackay enjoyed great success as a writer and, prior to World War I, sales of her novels exceeded the combined sales of her now better-known contemporaries, including Arthur Conan Doyle, H. G. Wells, and Rudyard Kipling. She also was a favorite writer of Winston-Churchill, Randolph Churchill, and Britain's Royal Family. Set a the turn to the Twentieth Century, "Temporal Power" depicts the machinations and troubles concerning the Royal family and the politicians in power in a fictional England.
