Originally published in Moscow as a military text book, this book is listed as recommended reading in "The Soldier's Bookshelf" section of the 1974 "Calendar of a Soldier." White cover moderately-to-heavily discolored, lightly edgeworn. Interior clean and tight.

Part of the Navy Boys Series; verso of title page lists two others and this title in the series, and all were published in 1918. Single black-and-white illustration at frontis. Single page at rear lists other juvenile titles by this publisher. Cover cloth deteriorating and age-browned, with moderate darkening to spine (original cloth color may have been light blue) and weave of cloth starting to show through. Heavy foxing to frontispiece, verso, and adjoining pages. Text pages age-browned. Clean and tight with only faint wear.

Connecticut physician (Member of the Connecticut State Medical Society; physician to the Curtis Home for Old Ladies and Children) and author ("The Training and Education of Feeble-minded, Imbecile and Idiotic Children;" "Early Families of Wallingford, Connecticut") who also seemed to be interested in Biblical archaeology. The author mightily denounces quackery in Chapter V, but later goes on at great lengths to emphasize the effects of morals upon personal health. Light-to-moderate rubbing of cover extremities, with miniscule tear to cloth at foot of spine. Spine darkened. Light, irregular, patchy discoloration/staining to cover cloth along margins. Rear free endpaper has been removed. Otherwise clean and tight.
