Darwin's popular book was issued in various editions starting with this version from 1839, reprinted here in a facsimile version. It is popularly known as The Voyage of the Beagle and some later reprints use that title.

New York: Harcourt Brace, 1947. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good. DJ has small chips missing at top, bottom of spine and on back; not price clipped ($1.75 when new). Small word "Noel" and initial K in ink on front endpaper, along with what appears to be an ink face of Santa Claus, added by hand. Otherwise no marks. This book appeared at the same time as the popular movie of the same name, sp the back of the DJ includes a pitch for the movie.

Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1935. First edition. Hardcover. Fine. Photographs throughout. Fine tight copy with no added markings. Gold signature on front cover as bright as new, but gold lettering on spine somewhat dulled by time.

Philadelphia: The Westminster Press, 1946. Hardcover. Fine/fine. de Angeli, Marguerite. Signed on dedicatin page "To Daniel Potter Best Wishes A. C. de Angeli

Some small discoloration on book cover. Signed on the page facing the free endcover "To Dottie Kaelin, ANsel Adams." Mrs. Kaelin was Adams' copyeditor at Morgan & Morgan.

One of the great humorous and (sort of) romantic novels of the 1950s, still a terrific read. Words "Boston-Cross Highway" in ink on front endpaper and some pencil markings (see photo).

There are facsimiles of some letters bound in on onion-skin paper.Voll. 1 has large inscription in Spanish on Flyleaf, but otherwise set is clean. Faux moire cloth binding with gilt lettering, some scuffing at corners. Spines faded but legible.

New York: Robert M. McBride * COmpany, 1946. First edition, as stated. Hardcover. Very Good. A streamlined Western complete with accused sheriff killer who must clear his name and a couple of women who complicate the effort. Slight spotting on cover (half dozen small spots from some liquid drips), otherwise fine.

London: Bradbury & Evans, 1846. First Edition, 4th State. Hardcover. Very good. David Perdue. One of the Dickens'annual Christmas Books, 175 highly illustrated pages. The gilt on the embossed cover is bright. and the interior is in very good shape. The main damage is to the spine, where the front edge is locing bits of the cloth, but the gilt on the spine and front cover is still bright.

New YOrk: Lewis Nichols for Evert Duyckinck, 1802. First edition. Leather_bound. Good. It appears to have suffered some water damage, but pages are all present and it is readable--paper rather yellow with age

New York: McDowell, Obolensky, 1958. First printing. hardcover cloth. Fine/very good. A funny and amoral classic, sometimes identified as a mix of the styles of Henry Miller and James Joyce. Very Irish. DJ has some small tears at top and bottom but is largely intact and very bright

Ex-Library. Otherwise a very good copy of Margaret Drabble's first novel.

Hoffman had the collaboration with Einstein's secretary, Helen Dukas, who provided insights and personal paper. Hoffman is a physicist who collaborated with Einstein at Princeton's Institute for Advance Studies. More than a biography, the book also explains physics in a clear, easy-to-follow way.
