Publisher's blue-grey boards printed white on the upper cover and the spine with publisher's device to the back board. A neat name and date (1920) on the front paste-down and quite heavy foxing to the earlypages of the book especially the half-title, boards faded, spine ends pushed and frayed. A VG copy or thereabouts. The half-title indicates that this book was part of Heinemann's Colonial Library of Popular Fiction issued for sale in the British Colonies and India and not to be imported into Europe or the USA. A note on the Colonial editions of this book. Cyril Dean Darlington was an English biologist, geneticist and eugenicist who discovered the mechanics of chromosomal crossover, its role in inheritance, and therefore its importance to evolution. He was Sherardian Professor of Botany evolution at the University of Oxford from 1953 to 1971. Darlington's research on genetics contributed to modern evolutionary synthesis in the 20th century. Publisher's original dark green cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board (which also has a blind-ruled border). Scattered foxing to the page block edges (and the early pages of the book) which has crept into the interior in places. There is a neat neat name and contemporary date to the head of the 1/2 title. No fading whatsoever to the gilt lettering. Slightly soft spine tips. Overall an attractive VG+ copy. No D/W. A series of essays drawn from the Author's contributions to "The Times" newspaper. Quite uncommon.
