Description:
This is a complete set, including volume XVII - the index volume. It is handsomely bound in beige leather and hard board in a burled/marble design with 'like new' raised designs in black and gold colors on the spine. This set, published in 1881, is likely the first or second printing of the 1880 third edition of the Cyclopedia first published in 1857. The volumes are about 800 to 900 pages each. The volumes are in superb condition; ranging from VG to NF. The bindings are tight. The pages appear to be unmarked, without tears, foxing or noticeable folds. However, we could not look at every page of every volume. The apparent condition faults are the wear at the cover corners and to a lesser extent on the cover edges and along the leather covered spine.. It is the primarily the extent of this wear that accounts for the VG to NF rankings. The two exceptions are volumes 5 Volumes and 6, which we believe are in Good - good+ condition. Volume five has a stain along the leather spine and adjacent leather…

Description:
The only publishing date given is the 1939 copyright date. However, while it has age, it may be published later than 1939. the gift inscription on the inside front cover is dated 1965. There is a rusted paper clip impression on the first title page. Also some soiling on the spine. Otherwise, the book is quite handsome. High quality, thick paper (like rag paper, though not stated), with evocative wood cuts by Thomas Nason in his style and which have the feel of woodcuts.

Text and photographs reveal the strong, distinctive motifs that distinguish the different areas of the continent: the dazzling geometric patterns of North Africa, the rich earth tones of East Africa, the bold graphics of West Africa, as well as the elegant style of Afro-European design and the eclectic interpretations of contemporary designers. Each area of the home is examined - entrances, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and gardens - with detailed explanations and captions offering essential design guidance and expert suggestions.… Read More

We could not find any previously published. The volumes are ex-library from the U. S. Library of Congress, marked "surplus." The novel is in four small volumes, approximately 150 - 160 pages each. The covers are hard cardboard similar in appearance to old-fashioned notebooks. Spines and the adjacent half inch of cover on either side are black. The cover of the spine on volume one has been covered with black tape, matching the other spine covers. The other three spines show wear. The four volumes' condition is excellent condtion for their age. We haven't examined all the pages, howevers they appear to beclear, clean, without marks, folds, foxing or toning, except for those by the U. S. Library of Congress. Each cover has a white sticker on the upper left corner and the following marks/stamps: a Library of Congress bookplate on…

Description:
.First edition published in New York and London. and translated by W. L. Courtney. The cover is in good condition. The quite beautiful gilded fish/spirit design and printing on the front cover stands our clearly; as do the designs and print along the pine. However, the covers have shelf wear along the edges and corners, most pronounced at the bottom and top of the spine. The top of the spine has a piece of the cover (about 1/4") missing. Otherwise, the book is in excellent condition, the pages are without tears or blemishes. Rackham's drawings and designs grace the opening pages and the beginning of each chapter. There are 14 half-toned paste-on engravings, each covered with glassine paper. No dj. This is the story of Undine, a water spirit, marries a knight. It is an early German fairy tale. Priority mail shipping will be provided at no additional cost for domestic sales. Sales outside of the United states are subject to special postal rates, to be determined.
