Description:
Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1983. Vintage press kit for the 1973 music documentary chronicling David Bowie's final live performance as Ziggy Stardust. Included in the press kit are four vintage black and white film still photographs and 21 pages of production information. Shot on location with only four cameras in London's Odeon theater on July 3, 1973, the film witnesses Bowie's final performance as Ziggy Stardust. It would remain unreleased, save a scant handful of partial screenings, for another ten years, as the audio recordings from the event were so poor that the filmmakers did not want to use them. Only in the early 1980s did Bowie rerecord a number of post-production tracks, when he felt that he had finally put enough distance between himself and his Ziggy Stardust persona. 21 pages of production information, corner stapled, 8.5 x 11 inches. Photographs 8 x 10 inches. Stills and production information have a single soft crease, else Fine, housed in a Near Fine glossy full-color… Read More

Description:
Newark: Newark Theatre, 1915. Original handbill for a theatrical run of D.W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" (1915) at the Newark Theatre in Newark, New Jersey. Noted on the bill are cast members Lillian Gish, Mae Marsh, Donald Crisp, and Raoul Walsh (here spelled "Raul Walsh"), who played John Wilkes Booth. Also noted on the bill is that the film is to be accompanied by a full symphony orchestra under the direction of Albert Pesce, who arranged music for four D.W. Griffith films between 1919 and 1922. An early epic from Griffith, who was inspired by the sprawling Italian productions "Quo Vadis" (1913) and "Cabiria" (1914), films that not only legitimated the feature film runtime but made extensive use of the traveling camera, something Griffith revolutionized in the United States with this film. At the time of production, American companies were skeptical of an audience's ability to endure complicated narratives and inflated runtimes, so Griffith formed his own production company to take it on,… Read More

Description:
N.p.: N.p., 1940. Draft script for an unproduced film. The daughter of a wealthy New York City businessman struggles over her position in life when she can't seem to choose between a wealthy British suitor and a middle class New York City police detective. She attempts to strike out on her own and work for her own money, but the men in her life secretly protect her. Although it disturbs her when she finds out she's been watched over, she eventually forgives them both, and then must choose one to marry, of course. Though similar in title to the 1944 King Vidor film "An American Romance," also written by Herbert Dalmas, this script bears little to no resemblance in plot to that film, and we must assume that this was an earlier, less effective screenplay of Dalmas'. Pale yellow wrappers, with credits for screenwriter Dalmas. 177 leaves, carbon typescript. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper Very Good plus bound with three gold brads.

Culver City, CA: RKO Radio Pictures, 1939. Estimating script for the 1939 film. In his 1970 biography of Nathanael West, Jay Martin notes: "On June 6, 1938, [West] was hired for his 'established' salary of $350 a week by RKO Pictures-the first of five major studios to employ him-to make a screenplay from an original story by Richard Carroll. Putting everything else aside, within a week he outlined his plans for treating the material. He fretted all weekend over whether the outline would be accepted, knowing that he could be out of a job again on Monday. On late [Monday] afternoon he was persuaded to telephone the executive producer, Lee Marcus, who told him to go ahead at once to the screenplay. On July 20, West finished a first draft for what would be one of his most successful films. After eight weeks in all, having polished his script, West was released by RKO. [At this point,] it appeared that [West] had a good chance to earn a single credit for this high budget, B-quality movie, but the… Read More
