Includes photographs and brief tongue-in-cheek statements about 32 Members and Associates of this now mostly forgotten African American men's organization.Also included are a few short articles including "L. U. D. Marches On" (two pages; author not identified) giving a brief history of the organization since its founding in 1931) and a one page article titled "Your Harlem and Ours," by Thomas St. Clair Bourne, a local journalist and then the organization's Master of Finance. Numerous advertisements, including several from other men's and women's social clubs.

Illustrated are three works by Appel (Karel Appel), two by Constant (Constant Nieuwenhuys) and three by Corneille (Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo). This modest catalog is apparently quite uncommon.

INSCRIBED on front free endpaper by Daghlian to "Rose Howard"). Daghlian, a Turkish Armenian graduate of Central Turkey College in Aintab, was a teacher, mostly in the United States and longest at Connecticut College. A brief biographical sketch appears at pages 119-121 including his survival during the Armenian massacres. The rest of the book is full of the author's thoughts and opinions (religious, conservative and otherwise) rather than recollections. OCLC locates two copies (Connecticut College and American Congregational Assn.).

Dalzel is identified on the title-page as "formerly Governor at Whydah, and now at Cape-Coast-Castle." He profited from the slave trade while in West Africa and defends the practice in this book.

The first edition (1931) contained seven biographical sketches (Lucy Craft Laney, Maggie Lena Walker, Janie Porter Barrett, Mary McLeod Bethune, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Charlotte Hawkins Brown and Jane Edna Hunter). *Charles H. Wesley and *Thelma D. Perry added five biographical sketches to this second edition: Harriet Tubman, Fanny Muriel Jackson Coppin, Mary Louise Baldwin, Ida B. Wells Barnett and Hallie Quinn Brown -- additionally, the entry for Mary McLeod Bethune was expanded in the second edition.
