Description:
American Mathematical Society, 2016. Paperback. New Book. Paperback. Using Dwork's theory, Delaygue, Rivoal and Roques prove a broad generalization of his famous p-adic formal congruences theorem. This enables them to prove certain p-adic congruences for the generalized hyper-geometric series with rational parameters; in particular, they hold for any prime number p and not only for almost all primes. Furthermore, using Christols's functions, they provide an explicit formula for the "Eisenstein constant" of any hyper-geometric series with rational parameters. As an application of their results, they obtain an arithmetic statement "on average" of a new type concerning the integrality of Taylor coefficients of the associated mirror maps. Description:
University of British Columbia Press, 2018. Hardbound. New Book. Hardbound. The model of intercultural deliberation that Lowe-Walker advances in his book, understood as a particular type of inclusive political dialogue, resides at the intersection of a deliberative democracy and multiculturalism, and rests on a simple idea that how we talk about an issue is as important as the issue itself. First he introduces the politics of paradox, a perennial problem. Next, he critically examines deliberative decision making as a means to get around the dialogue¬órestricting and dialogue¬óending effects of the politics of paradox. Emerald, 2020. Hardbound. New Book. Hardbound. Easton considers how bereaved families participate in the inquest system following a death in custody, which she says is often the only independent and open process that looks into the causes and wider circumstances of a death. She covers the law, empirical research, participation benefits for bereaved families, bereaved families holding the state to account, and achieving fair and effective participation. Among her topics are the requirement to investigate deaths in custody, legitimate interests, benefits that participation provides to families, legitimacy that family participation provides the inquest, and practical challenges to effective participation. Description:
Paradigm Publishers, 2008. Hardbound. New Book. Hardbound. What does the treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib say about class? How about the varied fates of their guards? Independent scholars Ebert and Zacarzadeh search for evidence about the role of class in a number of incongruous places, in part because class is sneaky, but also because we use it as the invisible foundation of much that we think and do. They seek the critical elements of a basic grammar of class that transcend language, and invoke Marx, Engels and Derrida on the way, but they also mine a range of events and trends, including the rise of perceptions about private property, the erotics of class and class issues in 9/11, the impact of class on stem-cell funding and abortion, the availability of technology and e-learning, media, and the binary nature of class and gender. They close with an interesting chapter on class and capital culture. (2008 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR)

Dissertation.com, 2017. Paperback. New Book. Paperback. Construing nihilism as the eroding of foundations, the loss of objective values, and the dissolution of the strong structures that have their bases in metaphysics, Sebo explores how it could be a mechanism for enhancing the proper functioning of democracy in Slovakian society and the healing of the internal nihil-inclinations of the Church. He proposes that the end of objective, representational, metaphysical thinking allows for the development of democracy and the reduction of violence and abuse of power in the different spheres of social, cultural, and religious life.
