A complete and serviceable copy in fair to good condition. Cloth frayed along front joint, several small losses of cloth (at corners and along joints), some soiling to front board, tissue guards toned, foxing throughout. Contemporary gift inscription in pencil on front flyleaf (Presented to Mrs. Roxana Simonton by W.D. Simonton, Lowndes County, Alabama"). Captain and Mrs. Eastman were stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota from 1841 through 1848, during which time Mrs. Eastman recorded the daily life of the Sioux and the Winnebago. Slight wear to extremities, else a fine copy, in original red cloth binding. Dust jacket is chipped along top edge. Provides short histories of exploration and ascents for each of 53 Colorado peaks over 14,000 feet.

Union Pacific Railroad, 1938. Very good. Pictorial map, 18" x 31", folding to a 9" x 4" brochure (titled "Boulder Dam"), with text, illustrations, and colorful pictorial cover on the verso. A few pinholes at the intersections and tiny tears at margins, but overall a very nice example of this appealing map. which covers the region served by the Union Pacific Railroad from Salt Lake City in the north to Boulder City in the south, and from Las Vegas in the west to the Grand Canyon in the east. Various geographical features (mountain ranges, washes, canyons, and individual peaks) are identified, as are National Parks and Monuments.

San Francisco: Sierra Club, 1966. Hardcover. Near fine/near fine. Revised edition. 155 pp, with index, photographs, maps. Near fine copy in original pictorial cloth, slight spotting to top edge. Dust jacket has a few minor chips and tears. Edwards, who spent nine years as a seasonal ranger and naturalist at Glacier, provides descriptions of numerous peaks and routes, supplemented by general and area maps and 48 pages of photographs by Ansel Adams, Philip Hyde, Cedric Wright, Bob and Ira Spring, and others.

Worcester: Moses W. Grout, 1832. Hardcover. Good. 12mo, 382 pp, with frontis portrait of Edwards. Contemporary full leather binding with black spine label, bookseller ticket / label of Abraham Maze, Bleecker St., on front pastedown. (Maze's shop was operational from the 1830s-1870s). Front hinge loosening, significant dampstaining visible on about 50 pp, light foxing throughout. A good reference copy. First edition of this collection, published more than 70 years after Edwards's death. Sabin 21957.

New York and Philadelphia: Historical Publishing Company, 1883. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair. 6.5" x 10", 256 pp, illustrated, in original green cloth boards. A fair copy only. Text is complete and clean, but pages are tanned and book was water-damaged at some time. Boards are stained and slightly warped, there is some staining to the endpapers and a piece of clear tape over part of the front pastedown, and text block has minor rippling. Not pretty, but a serviceable reference copy of the first edition. Above the title is "Part I," but as far as we can tell there were never any additional volumes. A very informative work providing detailed information on hundreds of Brooklyn businessmen and their businesses, as well as a general history of industry in the city.

Placitas: Duende, 1964. First Edition. Softcover. Very good. Side-stapled wrappers, with cover photo by Paul Saunders. Some foxing/light staining to front cover, lower corner with some creasing, pages a bit tanned, all else very good. Almost entirely by Eigner, but with a letter from Duncan to Eigner at the beginning.

From the Introduction: "The first part is an expanded version of the publication 'History and Origin of the Basque' first published in 1962 ... Part II points out the highlights of recent Basque history from 1931 to the present and deals primarily with the short-lived Basque Republic and the Spanish Civil War which followed."

Album containing eleven 7"x 9" professional linen-backed photographs showing the process and results of installing new street lights along a main commercial thoroughfare in Hamilton, Ohio. Hamilton is the county seat of Butler County, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati. In the early twentieth century, "the town was a heavy manufacturing center for vaults and safes, machine tools, cans for vegetables, paper, paper making machinery, locomotives, frogs and switches for railroads, steam engines, diesel engines, foundry products, printing presses, and automobile parts" (wiki). The photos show wide streets lined with businesses which, with the advent of increased automobile traffic, were undoubtedly eager for the most modern and effective methods of illumination. A wonderful set of facing night views shows how much brighter the new lights are. Includes work by Elizabeth Awalt, Katherine Bradford, Maryjean Viano Crowe, Timothy Harney, Martie Holmer, Harel Kedem, Daniel Ladd, Rosamond Purcell, Jain Tarnower, Clara Wainwright. "10 Artists/10 Visions: 1989 is the first of what we intend to be an annual event and has been created to encourage the curatorial staff to formulate judgements about contemporary aesthetic accomplishment" (foreword).

Edinburgh: William Tait, 1860. Softcover. Good. 7 x 10.25 in, pp [5], 179, with frontis portrait of the author. Wrappers chipped at the corners, with some dust soilng and foxing, dampstain to portrait leaf only (presumably occurred prior to being bound in), some dogeared corners; contents clean, binding sound. Elliott (1781-1849) was an English poet and merchant. In his youth he wrote pastoral poems, but by the early 1830s he had begun to infuse poltiics into his work "by denouncing the 'bread tax', the exploitation of child and adult labour, and the low wages of the working classes, and by advocating free trade. In 1830 Elliott helped to found the short-lived Sheffield Mechanics Anti-Bread Tax Society, and formed the Sheffield Anti-Corn Law Society in 1834....it was his protest verse, favourably reviewed by Thomas Carlyle, Bulwer-Lytton, the Howitts, W. A survey and pro-Mormon analysis of various events in the history of the Mormon Church by a non-Mormon former clergyman who moved to Utah in 1889. Flake 3153.

Presented in Q & A format, with sections dedicated to Nasser's views on the problem of Palestine; relations between the United Arab Republic and China; tensions between the UAR and Iraq; relations with the United States; and development programs in the UAR. An interesting snapshot of the positions and goals of the short-lived political union between Egypt and Syria. Not found in OCLC.

New York: Published by the Author & Compiler, 1879. First Edition. Softcover. Good. 7 x 4.5 inches, 260 pp, in original printed wrappers. Moderate soiling to front cover, which is chipped at the lower cover; significant staining to back cover, some loss to backstrip. Text itself quite clean, tightly bound. An explication of Swedenborgian theology, described in an 1880 review in The Sunday School Helper as "very readable for all who would make themselves acquainted with the doctrines of the great Swedish Seer, Emanuel Swedenborg. Many of his writings are formidable to the general reader, but this statement of his opinions in the language of Dr. Ellis is very agreeable, and to the theological student, entertaining." Ellis (b. 1815) was a well-known homeopathic physician and author of the popular text Family Homeopathy (1864). He practiced in his home state of Michigan for several decades before moving New York in 1862 to accept a position at the Homeopathic Medical College for Women.

Binding sound, text unmarked but heavily foxed. A solid reference copy. Ellis authored many books about the role of women in society, emphasizing their role as a stabilizing moral influence.
