Amstelaedami [Amsterdam]: ex officina Wetsteniana, 1707. Small 4to. (210 x 165mm), pp. [xxviii], 32, 454 [i.e., 450], [ii], including engraved additional title page, leaves 3G3-3G4 cancelled. Title page in red and black, with printer's device. Upper edge dust-soiled, engraved title a bit thumbed, ink marks to a2, tiny paper flaw to outer blank margin of 2C, intermittent slight browning. Contemporary vellum, title inked to spine, gilt arms of the Society of Writers to the Signets to boards. Upper edge and spine dust-soiled. Modern casemark label to front pastedown; 18th-century ownership inscription and casemark to ffep. A reissue of the 1590 Colonna (1534-1586) text as it had been printed by Merula in 1595, though without his glosses, to which the editor has added the notes of Delrio, Vassius and others. Glasguae [Glasgow]: Robertus et Andreas Foulis, 1751. Miniature 32mo. (80 x 45mm approx.). pp. 95, [i]. Text in Greek. Very occasional light spots, tiny hole to F2 affecting signature but not text. Contemporary dark brown calf, spine with raised bands and gilt bird motif to each compartment, neatly rebacked and label replaced, ffep renewed but other endpapers original. A bit rubbed, some light scrapes and scratched but a very good, attractive copy. Engraved bookplate of The Minister's Library, Stand Parsonage covering most of front paste-down. This is likely Stand Parsonage, Whitefield, Manchester. 'An early edition of Foulis' famous little volume' (Speilmann), printed in the same 8-point Greek type as their Anacreon of 1754. Edinburgh: printed for E. Wingrove, London, and E. Balfour, Edinburgh, 1799. 8vo. pp. [vii] [1] 9-520 + 3 folding plates. Intermittent light water stain to lower or outer blank margin, slight spotting to title and verso of last, endpapers adhering a little at gutter of title and last. Contemporary sheep, rebacked, spine blind tooled. A little loss to lower board, recornered. The tenth edition of Simson's fundamental English edition of Euclid. 'No man seems to have done more towards the restoration of Euclid's genuine works than Dr Simson of Glasgow' (Bruggermann 197-200). Appended to the traditional content - Euclid's books 1-6, 11 and 12, and 'Euclid's Data' - is here also, for the first time, 'Elements of Plain and Spherical Trigonometry', illustrated with three folding plates.
