Large octavo (250 x 190 mm), illustrated wrappers, stapled, 8 pp, illustrated; includes full programme for Backhaus' fifth recital at the Melbourne Auditorium on 12 November 1926 (Schubert, Chopin, Beethoven and Liszt), and brief programmes for the sixth (all Chopin) and seventh recitals, with advertisements for Melbourne firms such as A.P. Sykes, the Aeolian Company, Allan & Co. and Sutton's; a very good copy. Scarce programme from the great German concert pianist Wilhelm Backhaus' first Australian tour in 1926. Appears unrecorded in Australian collections.

Octavo (185 x 125 mm), original printed stiff wrappers, pp [8], 198; photomechanical process and line-drawn illustrations throughout; text in English; an exceptional copy, in pristine condition; from The Papuan Collection of Charles Fletcher (Melbourne), his bookplate to the recto of the first blank. The use of this text book was compulsory for children in the ""upper classes"" of the Papuan Assisted Primary Schools system. The topics covered include Captain Cook and the discovery of Australia; Columbus and the discovery of America; Vasco da Game and the Cape of Good Hope; explorer John Hanning Speke and the Nile; the discovery of Port Moresby; hunting wild animals; a tale of Old Japan; and the burial of Sir John Moore after the Battle of Corunna. Trove locates only the copy in the Deakin University Library.
