Description:
London: New English Library, 1969. [Modern literature] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 14cm), pp.220; [4]. Publisher's red and stippled pink cloth to boards, gilt titles to spine. With the photographic dust-jacket priced at 25s to front flap. Pink endpapers. Interior and edges moderately toned. Some scuffing to jacket, with sunning to spine. Gentle wear and bumping to jacket extremities. Very good. Groupie, a fictionalised but accurate account of sixties rock n roll/groupie culture, was one of the first English novels to incorporate a variety of sixties slang. As lexicographer Jonathon Green writes: 'Groupie gets 22 citations in the Oxford English Dictionary from "downer" to "trippy" and "spliff" to "uptight," a mini-lexicon of Sixties-speak.'.
