Howard Bernhardt Adelmann was an American zoologist-embryologist and historian of science. He was professor of histology and embryology at Cornell University from 1921 until 1963.

Near fine. A splendid facsimile edition and translation, of two works of Fabricius. The introduction includes a history of embryology before Fabricius. "Fabricius wrote at great length on embryology, inventing many theories, some of which were false. His illustrations marked a great advance on previous work. Fabricius recorded for the first time the dissection of several embryos" – Garrison-Morton 465 and 466 (citing the first Latin editions of 1621 and 1600).

On burns and scalding. Wilhelm Fabry (also William Fabry, Guilelmus Fabricius Hildanus, or Fabricius von Hilden), often called the "Father of German surgery", was the first educated and scientific German surgeon. He is one of the most prominent scholars in the iatromechanics school and author of 20 medical books. His Observationum et Curationum Chirurgicarum Centuriae, published posthumously in 1641, is the best collection of case records of the century and gives clear insight into the variety and methods of his surgical practice. He developed novel surgical techniques and new surgical instruments. He also wrote a notable treatise on burns (this work).

Important comprehensive work on the urinary organs, and male genitalia. This section is devoted to the kidney, for which Fahr was highly respected. Gruber and Lubarsch were pathologists. Stoerk, born in Vienna, trained as a pathologist, worked in bacteriology and histology, was highly regarded, wrote on kidney tumors and the development and structure of the kidney and about diseases of the heart. He contributed a paper on liver regeneration.
