Colonel William Faucitt of the Guards, translator of the Regulations of the Prussian Infantry, was employed in Germany in 1775 raising troops for service in the Mediterranean and later in America. “When I was in Town yesterday, I hunted after a little news for you, but cou’d pick up none that was material. Berlin, 19 October 1850. 2 pp. 8 x 5 inches, in good condition. Theodore Sedgwick Fay (1807-1898), author and diplomat. He wrote Dreams and Reveries of a Quiet Man (2 vols., 1832), which contained papers he had written for the New York Mirror, where he was an editor beginning in 1828. He married Laura Gardenier in 1833, and travelled in Europe for three years, while sending back articles to the Mirror. He served with ability in the United States diplomatic service, first as secretary of the legation at London briefly (1837), then at Berlin (1837–53), and next (1853–61) as Minister at Berne, Switzerland.

Hervé Auguste Étienne Albans Faye (1814 – 1902), French astronomer, studied comets, and discovered the periodic comet 4P/Faye on 22 November 1843. His discovery of "Faye's Comet" attracted worldwide attention, and won him the 1844 Lalande Prize and a membership in the French Academy of Sciences. His work covered the entire field of astronomical investigation. It comprised the determination of comet periods, the measurement of parallaxes, and the study of stellar and planetary movements. He also studied the physics of the sun.
