Late in 1850 he was appointed an arbitrator to decide the boundary between New Brunswick and Canada. In 1841 Falconer accompanied the Texan Santa Fe Expedition as an observer. Later that year, Falconer published his account of the expedition as Expedition to Santa Fé: An Account of Its Journey from Texas through Mexico, with Particulars of Its Capture. In 1844 he also published Notes of a Journey through Texas and New Mexico, in the years 1841 and 1842 in the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society of London. Colonel William Faucitt of the Guards, translator of the Regulations of the Prussian Infantry, was employed in Germany in 1775 raising troops for service in the Mediterranean and later in America. “When I was in Town yesterday, I hunted after a little news for you, but cou’d pick up none that was material. Nobody cou’d tell me, who wou’d succeed Lord Sandwich, as Secretary of State, tho’ there was a Report about, that Lord Suffolk had been sollicited to take it, which very few gave credit to. Cheltenham, 31 December 1828. 1 page 9 x 7 inches, left margin slightly ragged where mounted. Sir Arthur Brooke Faulkner M.D. (1779-1845), Irish physician to the forces, served on the staff in Spain, Holland, Sicily and Malta (where he introduced quarantine measures against the plague in 1813), and published works of continental travel. In 1810 he published a tract, ‘Considerations on the Expediency of Establishing an Hospital for Officers on Foreign Service’. In this letter he writes. ‘I have added a remark to be put in the poem & a foot-note relative to the Duke of Wellington’s letter, which I think you will admit the expediency of inserting.’

Berlin, 19 October 1850. 2 pp. 8 x 5 inches, in good condition. Theodore Sedgwick Fay (1807-1898), author and diplomat. He wrote Dreams and Reveries of a Quiet Man (2 vols., 1832), which contained papers he had written for the New York Mirror, where he was an editor beginning in 1828. He married Laura Gardenier in 1833, and travelled in Europe for three years, while sending back articles to the Mirror. He served with ability in the United States diplomatic service, first as secretary of the legation at London briefly (1837), then at Berlin (1837–53), and next (1853–61) as Minister at Berne, Switzerland.

Hervé Auguste Étienne Albans Faye (1814 – 1902), French astronomer, studied comets, and discovered the periodic comet 4P/Faye on 22 November 1843. His discovery of "Faye's Comet" attracted worldwide attention, and won him the 1844 Lalande Prize and a membership in the French Academy of Sciences. His work covered the entire field of astronomical investigation. It comprised the determination of comet periods, the measurement of parallaxes, and the study of stellar and planetary movements. He also studied the physics of the sun.
