Paris: Editions de la Galerie Charpentier / Daragnes, 1944. A beautiful, haunting livre d'artiste illustrated with 22 original aquatints by Andre Villeboeuf, 16 of which are full-page and hors-texte. The artist wrote extensively about Goya, and we see Goya's influence both in the technique (aquatints with subtle shades, derived from multiple bitings) and in the subject matter (surreal beasts, the occult). From a total edition of 230 copies, this is one of 195 copies beautifully printed (by Daragnes) on fine Lana wove paper. Folio. Loose as issued in original wraps. Fine and bright, with no defects. In the original board chemise and slipcase.

This is furthermore A PRESENTATION COPY, signed and inscribed by the author to M. Bardel. 8vo. Original wraps. ENTIRELY UNCUT AND UNOPENED. Faint staining to front cover, else FINE AND BRIGHT. There is no copy of this book in NUC, WorldCat, or the Bibliotheque Nationale. In fact, I have not located any other copy anywhere.

Monte Carlo: Andre Sauret, 1967. The standard monograph on this artist. Profusely illustrated in color and black and white. From a total edition of 3000 copies, this is one of only 50 special copies initialed by Gallibert and with a suite of three signed and numbered original color lithographs by Gallibert, entitled "Rhythmes Cosmiques". Large 4to, loose as issued in wraps, cloth chemise, and slipcase. Book and chemise bright and fine, with only the lightest soiling to slipcase. The three lithographs are in a larger format, and are housed in a separate folder. They have barely-noticeable marginal discoloration (caused by light), but are otherwise perfect, with full margins.

Madrid: Francisco de Hierro, 1729. FIRST EDITION of one of Feijoo's most important works. 32, 207 pp. The author, the greatest Spanish polymath of the 18th century, writes about such disparate subjects as Asian emeralds, basilisks, magic and the occult, whales, etc. This book was reprinted many times throughout the 18th century, but THIS FIRST EDITION IS VERY RARE. This copy is furthermore in FIRST STATE, with the misprint in the header on p 116 ("hisroria natural"). Printed on fine laid paper. 4to. Bound in Spanish calf, worn (especially at spine) but solid. Internally FINE AND BRIGHT. A rare and important book.
