London: Printed for John Bell...and C. Etherington, 1776. 84pp. With an engraved frontispiece. Uncut in recent tan paper boards. Very minor wear to extremities. Internally clean and crisp. A comedy in five acts, first printed in 1706, by playwright George Farquhar (1677-1707). Born in Londonderry Farquhar attended Trinity College, Dublin, before deciding on a career as a stage performer. His theatrical pursuits were however short-lived, he retired from the stage having accidentally wounded a fellow actor. Following a move to London Farquhar took to playwriting, primarily comedies. Several of his works were produced, beginning with Love and a Bottle in 1699, and ending with The Beau Stratagem in 1707. Farquhar lived to know of the commercial success of his final play but died in penury. ESTC T46515.. 12mo.

London: Not published [Nassau Steam Press - W. S Johnson], [1855]. 24pp. Printed theatre notice, excusing errors in the text, loosely inserted. Original printed paper tan wrappers. A trifle rubbed and dusty. Internally clean and crisp. A scarce programme for a staging at the Theatre Royal, Olympic, of an original pantomime based on the Gunpowder Plot, to be performed by 'a company of amateurs' on 31st March, 1855. Peculiarly, the prologue, rather than being in anyway connected to the drama, takes the form of an argument on the merits of theatre between 'The Spirit of Pantomime', 'Modern Drama', and 'The Shade of Shakspere'. OCLC record copies at seven locations (BL, Chicago, Erfurt, Harvard, Illinois, Nottingham, and Rice); COPAC adds two further (Lancaster and Royal Collection). . 8vo.
