Description:
Rare First London Edition Of Gray's Anatomy. In very good condition. Protected in a custom leather clamshell case. Printed in 1858. Gray's Anatomy was originally issued in a cloth binding. This book was custom bound in fine leather by the prestigious 19th century bindery 'E. Walker & Sons' Bindery in New York soon after publication, and presumably has been rebound mid 20th century judging by the condition of the leather. This book comes with a matching leatherbound clamshell case. This book was custom bound and intended as a gift, thereby removing it from circulation. Most copies were used during dissection and exhibit significant usage wear. This copy is in remarkable condition. Half Title page is completely present. This book is complete. Only light generalized abrasion, wear to the marbled covers, as shown. Some generalized usage wear. Writing in pencil on final page of the index. One page has creased corner. In highly giftable and presentable condition.Royal 8vo. xxxii, 750 pp. (note: page 369… Read more

ANATOMY DESCRIPTIVE AND SURGICALBy HENRY GRAY, F.R.S.LECTURER ON ANATOMY AT SAINT GEORGE'S HOSPITALTHE DRAWINGS BYH. V. CARTER M.D.LATE DEMONSTRATOR OF ANATOMY AT ST. GEORGE'S HOSPITALTHE DISSECTIONSJOINTLY BY THE AUTHOR AND DR. CARTERLondon; John W. Parker and Son, West Strand1858Illustrated with 363 wood-engravings.This book is worthy of professional conservation and rebinding, but as of yet it is still currently in it's original state. It is in worn condition from use during dissection, but it is complete, and far better than is to be expected. Many copies lack the ads, which are present in this copy. The original binding is in poor condition, and lacking the spine. The text block is in Good+ condition for it's age, and is consistent with that book grade, and is as is to be expected on a critical anatomy text book that was used during dissection. There were only 2000 copies of this First Edition, and the possibility of finding one without wear from usage is unlikely. Even the possibility of… Read more
