Recent half brown morocco, spine with 5 raised bands; marbled boards. ¶ An interesting municipal pharmacopoea, published by order of the Collegium Medici Gandensis under the editorship of the pharmacists J. de Bever, A.D. Goormachtigh, G. van den Haute, and J. de Vos. The popolar names of the Materia Medica also give in Dutch. This was the last of a series of the municipal pharmacopoeasof Gent. The first was published in 1653 as 'Antidotarium Gandavensis", followed by an edition in 1663, and in 1756 as 'Pharmacopoea Gandavensis'. This is the last municipal pharmacopoea published in Belgium, and new was that the names of the Materia Medica are given in both Latin and Dutch. Today very rare.-- (A number of leaves slightly browned and/or partly foxed).

Finely printed in red and black within a nice typographycal border. Both catalogue are in very fine condition.

Some woodcut vignettes. ¶ First edition in a splendid fine copy, with the printed dedication to Lorry, the father of the 8th. century French dermatology. Geoffroy, naturalist and phycian wrote several important works. His 'Histoire abrégée des insectes..." (1764 & 1799) is a classic. The present work 'Hygieine' is a higlty esteemed piece of neo-latin of poetry., (translaled in 1774 by Delaunay).

First Englished translation of the first national German pharmacopoeia (Berlin, Decker, 1872). "In view of the already large, and rapidly increasing German population, including many physicians, the work, it is hoped will be acceptable to many pharmacists, who are frequently called upon for medicines by the German names, or by the Latin terms use in Germany" (from the preface). --(Apart from a small clear stain on the title-page, a nice clean inner copy).

Under the sub-title "Trois Têtes sous un même bonnet", 3 famous Parish dealers published their joint catalogue of books, autographs and prints from the French Romantic period. Very accurate descriptions of 800 items for sale, many of them are very rare today.

This series by the leading German specialist of the period have for some decades served both student and practitioner. Today these volumes are appreciated for their fine iconographical material by the leading medical artits of those days.-- (Lower part of the binding and part of the text waterstained, thus priced accordingly!).

Later editions Amsterdam 1755 & 1760. --(Lower corner of title-page neatly repaired; a split in the bookblock between page 416-417; text partly slightly browned, but a very acceptable copy of this rare item). Copy with ample margins. The genuine reprint of author's famous article, originally written for E. Guérin-Méneville's Dictionaire pittoresque d'Histoire Naturelle (1833-1839). The plates were engraved after the drawings by the great artist and embryologist G. Martin Saint-Ange. The half title reads: De Génération Spontanées: De l'Ovologie et de l'Embryologie. -- (Partly slightly foxed).

A nice copy of the first edition of both works. There are 4 later editions, the last in 1805. The author, "ancien chirurgien-major de la Marine" was a great advocate of catheterisation. According to a contemporary review, the work on urology has some interesting point of views, but written in a horible style.
