Description:
Stated first edition. The book and jacket have suffered a bit of abuse. The jacket has damage along the top and bottom edges, especially at the spine, with a collection of small tears and one whopping 6.5 cm tear at the upper rear corner. There is also a small skinned spot on the dust jacket near the center of the spine. The book has damage at the lower margin of the spine and wear at the upper margin. The corner with the large tear in the jacket also has the board showing through on the cover. All of that external abuse has not harmed the inside, where the pages are clean, tight and unmarked. (If you never look at the outside, you'll never think anyone had read it before, and maybe they haven't.) This may very well be the first book I have acquired that was written by a queer Tasmanian comedienne. (I'm not sure just how large that cohort is.)

Description:
Illustrated. One of a series of novels about the amusing adventures of Mrs. 'Arris from the 1950s and 60s. First edition. Little wear to the book other than a dampstain at the lower portion of the spine. The stain shows on the lower 5 cm of the dust jacket, about 3.5 cm of the spine itself, and 2.5 cm or less on the endpapers. It does not penetrate much further than that, as you can see by the photo of the title page. Beyond that, the book shows very little wear, with clean, tight and unmarked pages. The dust jacket has two significant tears of 3 cm at the spine (visible in the photos) and 5 cm along the lower right front edge (which you won't be able to see in the photos). This is a rather rare book.

Embossed red cloth cover. Not a lot of wear for its age. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Four fold-out maps are intact, still bright (see two examples in photos #4 and 5). The original owner's name is inside the front cover. That owner, Gertrude Pritchard, appears to have been a schoolteacher in England in the early 20th century. I recently acquired a number of her books from an estate sale in Seattle. I have gathered those books into my "Pritchard Library" catalogue.
