Condition very good, the corners and bottom edge of the cover are rubbed, the spine edges and raised bands also rubbed, prize label from Royal Agricultural college on front pastedown, else near fine, internal contents clean, complete and intact. Tan leather binding with gilt double frame on the front and back covers and the emblem of the Royal Agricultural College Cirencester in gilt on the front cover. The cover edges and inner turn-ins are decorated with tiny gilt and tooled dentelles. 5 raised bands on the spine, decorated with gilt. The title "Gleig's Life of Wellington" is on a black leather panel in the second compartment, the other compartments are filled with gilt frames and scrolls.Marbled page edges, pastedowns and endpapers. A previous owner has rotected the book and the jacket with clear archival film but unfortunately taped down the clear cover to the jacket flaps and end-papers and there is some brown gum residue on the inner flaps of the jacket and also the paste-downs. Other than this in good condition, pages are clean, jacket is rubbed along edges and corners and creased on the folds, not price clipped.

Rugby book detailing forty-one historic matches from 1871 to 1958.

Signed by Author. 1931 first edition, only impression, very Limited Edition run of forty copies only. Signed by John Galsworthy. This is a 2 page poems written by John Galsworthy to H. E. Bates on the occasion of his wedding. In excellent, near fine condition, very slight darkening to the folded edge otherwise fine clean condition. Printed on 1 large sheet of paper that has been folded over twice, with title to front, the poem on the inner two leaves. On the rear side it reads "An Epithalamium in English is typically of the 17th century, with this defence the writer forestalls the detractors, who may submit that he has plagiarised his images. J. G." And is signed in ink by John Galsworthy underneath this statement. A very rare item.
