Moab, UT: Lin Ottinger Tours. Very Good. Maps. Set of three maps produced by Lin Ottinger in Moab, Utah during the 1970s. Set includes maps of Arches National Park (1973) , Canyonlands National Park (1972) , and Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park (1975). Each map is printed in black-and-white and measures approximately 22 x 17 inches. All are in very good condition with minor creasing to edges. Canyonlands map has light toning to bottom 5 inches. Versos are blank. All were drawn by French comic artist Jean-Claude Gal. Set was previously owned by W. L. “Bud” Rusho (1928-2011) , a western historian, author, and photographer who is best known for his work about Everett Ruess. Includes a TLS that is signed by Ottinger granting Rusho permission to use the maps in any of his publications. These maps show the topography of three iconic parks and mark all the major landmarks. Manuscript. Set of four manuscript letters from 1862 and 1863 to a Mrs. Esther Kilborn regarding the disappearance of her husband, whose last known whereabouts was the gold country of northern California. Letters generally legible with typical folds and wear. One letter missing corner with possible loss of a couple words. Without the original queries from Mrs. Kilborn we can only surmise the situation based on replies, but there is enough intrigue to make this a compelling set of letters. Apparently Mrs. Kilborn's husband ceased communications sometime in 1861--he was in northern California and his wife and children in the east. Letter (one) dated April 5, 1862 Cape Elizabeth, ME from a Mrs. Rachel York. York's son, William R. York was an associate of Mr. Kilborn.
