Fairly scarce hardcover biography of Victorian novelist George Gissing. VG+ in VG jacket. Slight lean to book, price-clipped jacket has a bit of toning, 1 in. tear to top of rear panel. Previous owner's book plate to front paste down. From the library of the founder of the Poetry Center of Chicago.

Apparent first U.S. Very good, but for oddly creased FFEP--otherwise, just a little yellowed, w/slightly more pronounced discoloration to rear free endpaper. Jacket has signficant soil, and spine is faded, but not price clipped ($2.50) and has no tears. In protective plastic.

Nice copy of what remained after Hamilton's ill-fated attempt at a Salinger biography was largely quashed by Salinger. First printing, NF in like jacket. Good in only a fair jacket, with significant creasing, chips, and tears. Book has extensive penciled notations both to the front endpapers and throughout, as this was clearly used as a rehearsal copy (most likely made, given the collection this was part of, by a beloved long time theater professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago.) Book club edition

Some rubbing to cover, a couple of price stickers, a couple of pages bent, one torn. No writing, ninth printing.
