Description:
391 pages; in German and Latin. Rebound; extremely light fraying of head and heel of spine, some age-darkening, otherwise in excellent condition, with all pages tight, clear, unmarked, untorn. Bears bookplate of K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.Heinrich Hagenmeyer (1834-1914) was a groundbreaking scholar of the Crusades, whose standards for publishing and editing sources, particularly for the First Crusade, set the standard for historians ever since.Walter the Chancellor, a 12th century Crusader and Chancellor of Antioch, wrote his work on Antiochene Wars between 1119 and 1122. He provides a compelling first-hand account of the battle between Roger of Salerno's Antiochene Crusader army and that of Ilghazi of Mardin, who soundly defeated the Crusaders and killed Roger on the Field of Blood in 1119.. He also sheds some light on relations with nearby Muslim states. This is a hard-to-find first edition of Hagenmeyer's edited, indexed and annotated Bella Antiochena.

Description:
A little fading and age-darkening, but binding completely tight, all pages bright and readable.Knut Hamsun's famous mature work, written toward the end of his prolific 50-year writing career, a more philosophical treatment of many of the themes he dealt with in his work, as well as his contemplation of modernism. It was written just before he rather tragically became involved with the Nazi party. Hamsun (1859-1952) was an adventurer-writer born into poverty in Lom, Norway, whose complex, subjective, psychological and stream-of-consciousness style and innovative technique profoundly influenced virtually all of 20th century fiction. He won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1920 for Growth of the Soil.
