České Budějovice: Kornout, 1931 Octavo 21.5 x 15 cm, wrappers, 19pp. Cover, book design, and a hand-colored and signed frontispiece by Josef Bartuška. Haller (1901-1968) was a poet, writer, translator, theater critic, teacher and member of the Skupina Linie. He had already collaborated with Bartuška before the founding of the group, and was on the editorial staff for the journal Linie, publishing his poetry regularly. A beautiful book production, scarce as with all the bibliophile gems from this regional avant-garde. Haller's signature also on the title page. Ex-coll Josef Bartuška, with his bookplate designed by Richard Lander. Worldcat locates one institutional holding in North America (Northwestern). Fine. .

Prague: SNTL, 1964 Oblong quarto, decorated boards, 166pp., with numerous illustrations throughout, some in color. Havlicek (1899-1961) was a noted Czech architect making essential contribution to the functionalist development. He collaborated with Karel Honzik in some of the largest projects for which he is famed. This is a commemorative volume incorporating Havlicek's own notes and his collaborators and architectural historians on his life work. Four copies found in North American institutional libraries. A fine copy.

Elaborate decorated pages with modernist/Cubist Czech motifs. An unusual, splendid production, and very uncommon! Internally fine; text signatures uncut. Cover rubbed, loose hinges. Budapest: Ma-Kiadas, 1919 Octavo 24.3 x 16 cm, wrappers, 32pp, 40 plates. Published in the momentous year of 1919 which saw the Hungarian Soviet Republic eruption and demise in less than five months, this is one of the more significant Ma publications under Lajos Kassák at the time and was released shortly before he and most of the Hungarian artists appearing in this book were forced into exile. In addition to surveying the noted movements in the title, Hevesy also includes works of the the Hungarian Activists operating under the banner of Kassák's Ma. Aktivizmus was strongly influenced and drew freely from the three movements under discussion. "The Revolving Stage: Prelude to a new theater," a devětsil treatise on theater. Jindrich Honzl (1894-1953) was a Czech theater and film director, critic and theorist of the stage and cinema. His writings under the devetsil banner largely created the groundwork for the avant-garde theater that developed in Czechoslovakia. Numerous illustrations.

Prague: Karel Zink, 1925 Octavo (19.2 x 14.5 cm, 7-1/2 x 6-3/8 in.), wrappers, 32, 24, 52pp., issues 1-4 of Year I (all published), edition of 222 numbered copies for each issue. Contributors include Josef Váchal, Anna Macková, Emmerich Alois Hruka, Broz, etc., with original woodcuts and linocuts, full-page and vignettes, and literary contributions by the artists and friends. Includes a few chapters and illustrations of Váchal's KRVAVÝ ROMÁN in pre-published form as they were in the process of completion, and as first issues they are quite significant in the context of Váchal's oeuvre. Editor Emmerich Alois Hruka (1895-1957) is noted for his graphic work, with special emphasis on the erotic and grotesque. He is often associated with Váchal and considered himself a disciple of JV. Hruka's work and interests drew on the visionary, occult and magical arts. Six library holdings in North America. This set in near fine condition.
